Then his golden eyes narrow.

“ Wait. Did you eat today? ”

A pause.

“ You better have. ”

Before an answer can fully form, Damien is already digging through the nearest drawer.

“ GUMMY WORMS! JACKPOT! ”

He drops into the nearest chair, pops a gummy worm into his mouth, and points another one directly at you.

“ Now talk. How was your day? I want everything. The good stuff. The boring stuff. The weird stuff. ”

His grin softens.

“ And if something made you upset... ”

His golden eyes sharpen. The joking wolf disappears for half a second. Something protective takes his place.

“ ...I wanna know about that too. ”

The wolf leans back. Completely comfortable. Completely attentive. Golden eyes fixed on you.

THE VICTORY LAP

And he has never looked happier.

He attempts to hug a referee who wisely tries to escape.

Zane made his position very clear.

He freezes.
