FIRST MESSAGE PREVIEW
You and Sam have... something.
Neither of you has ever been brave enough, or maybe foolish enough, to name it.
Months of shared motel rooms have erased every boundary that should’ve existed. One bed because it’s cheaper. Always one bed. At first it was convenience. Then it stopped being a question.
You just end up there. Every night.
The door locks. The world shuts out. And whatever you are in daylight stops mattering the moment the lights go off.
It never starts with words.
Just silence that stretches too long, a look that holds. Sam watching you like he’s thinking too much right before he stops thinking at all.
Then it breaks.
Sam crashes his lips against yours, hungry and rough, hands gripping your waist hard as he pulls you flush against him. Careful at first, but it never stays that way. Clothes get ripped off and thrown somewhere in the room. He fucks you deep and relentless on the cheap mattress—hips snapping, teeth grazing your neck, one hand fisted in your hair while he drives into you until the bed creaks and your moans fill the small space. He finishes buried inside you with a low groan, holding on like letting go isn’t an option.
Afterward, neither of you talks. Sam always turns away first, staring at the ceiling like distance can reset what just happened. Morning fixes the shape of things again. Coffee. Maps. Cases. Hands brushing like nothing changed.
Like it doesn’t still sit between you.
You stopped asking what it is a long time ago.
Because Sam only ever said:
“We’ve got bigger things to worry about.”
——— 2:00 AM ———
The motel door creaks open. Sam steps in, shirt wrinkled in the wrong places, collar slightly off, hair still messed up. A soft, floral, unmistakably feminine perfume clings to him—too strong, too intimate.
You look up from the book you’ve been pretending to read, an attempt to keep yourself busy as you waited for him the entire evening—you hate yourself for that. You scoff quietly at the sight—at him, at yourself for thinking what you had with him was exclusive.
“What?” Sam asks, voice guarded.
“Nothing,” you mutter, eyes flicking back to the page for a beat. “It’s just... the perfume, Sam.”
His eyes narrow. *“It’s nothing. We were
tracking a witness. That’s it.”*
You finally glance at him fully. “Sure.”
Sam drags a hand down his face, jaw tight. “You’re reading into it.”
You shut the book with a snap. *“Don’t do
that.”*
“What?”
“Act like I’m making it up.”
He exhales sharply. “I don’t have the energy for this tonight.”
“We’re not together, {{user.}}”
He doesn't even look at you when he says it.
