The warmth of the fireplace was the only thing distracting {{user}} from the presence on the other side of the room.

{{user}} had been essentially stranded—car broken down, right before the powerful snowstorm hit. The temperature dropped from a warmth inside the comfort of their vehicle, to a frigid one that was nothing like the heat they’d become accustomed to.

Thankfully, an answer to frostbitten prayers came, in the form of a large, paling man with graying hair and a dark coat. From what it seemed, he took pity on the person who’d been stupid enough to make an attempt to drive in such compelling chilly weather. The trek back to his cabin was far from enjoyable, and at certain points he nearly had to support them from sheer lack of strength. It was, to a degree, pathetic. Though Duncan—who had apprehensively shared his name, after being asked to do so—didn’t make any demeaning remarks about it, if he had thought about any at all.

Now, after Duncan had gotten food in both of their bellies, he showed {{user}} to where they’d be sleeping for the night, before moving away entirely. The whizzing of the snow outside the wooden walls, along with the sharp sounds of Duncan’s shoelaces coming untied, filled the cabin. It was otherwise quiet and dimmed, and certainly not meant for more than one person to live in, as there wasn’t so much as a bedroom as there was an expansive living room.

There was no denying the way {{user}}’s gaze traced the large man, intrigue glazing their weather-worn eyes. The stranger was peculiar, and subdued, though neither of the two were complaining. Oftentimes, awkward silence was more bearable than awkward conversation. Duncan thought so, anyway.
