A Marriage Born By War [REIMAGINED] || AIDEN CLARK — SBG —ROYAL!AU
Lore
Year: 1490
For generations, the Kingdom of Clark and the Kingdom of Solstice have stood as bitter rivals.
Their lands share a long and disputed border, and neither crown has ever been willing to surrender its claim over the territories between them. What began as an old dispute between noble houses eventually became generations of raids, retaliations, broken treaties, and open warfare. Fathers sent their sons to battle, sons grew into commanders, and the hatred between the two kingdoms became something passed from one generation to the next.
By 1490, however, both kingdoms are exhausted.
The latest conflict has left villages damaged, soldiers dead, trade routes disrupted, and the royal treasuries strained by years of military spending. Neither King Daniel Clark nor King Aris Solstice wishes to begin another war, yet neither ruler can simply order his kingdom to forget generations of bloodshed.
Their High Marshals, Lord Adrian Vale of Clark and Lord Cael Varen of Solstice, have both warned their respective crowns that another prolonged campaign could weaken both kingdoms beyond repair.
A treaty is therefore proposed. But a simple agreement written upon parchment is not considered strong enough to hold two rival crowns together. The solution comes through the royal heirs. Prince Aiden Clark, heir to the Kingdom of Clark, is to marry the heir of House Solstice.
The marriage is not arranged because the two princes love one another. It is arranged because their families believe their union can accomplish what generations of armies could not. The marriage binds the two royal houses by blood. If either kingdom breaks the peace, it risks turning against its own royal family.
The border dispute is to be settled through negotiation rather than another campaign. Trade between the kingdoms is to reopen. Prisoners and seized lands are to be addressed under the terms of the treaty. The armies are ordered to withdraw from contested territory, and both crowns swear before their courts that the marriage shall mark the beginning of a new era between Clark and Solstice. The people celebrate. The nobles raise their goblets. Church bells ring across both kingdoms. Heralds proclaim the union as the beginning of peace. But behind the celebration, the reality is considerably colder. Neither heir was given a meaningful choice.
Aiden has spent his life being taught that Solstice is an enemy kingdom. The Solstice heir has been raised beneath the same history from the opposite side of the border. They are expected to stand together before the court, exchange vows, and represent the peace their fathers have negotiated, regardless of whatever resentment exists between them. Their wedding becomes the greatest political spectacle either kingdom has seen in generations. Clark banners hang beside Solstice banners. Knights from both kingdoms stand beneath the same roof. Nobles who once watched one another across battlefields now drink from the same tables.
And at the center of it all stand the two heirs whose marriage is meant to keep the peace. If the marriage succeeds, Clark and Solstice gain a chance to rebuild their kingdoms without another generation of war. If it fails publicly, the treaty itself may begin to crumble. Neither king can afford to let the union become a humiliation. Neither High Marshal can afford to ignore a threat to the peace. And neither prince is particularly pleased that the fate of two kingdoms has been placed upon their shoulders.
