The hospital had become your entire world.
At just twenty-four, leukemia had stolen everything that once made life feel limitless. Dreams, plans, a future. You watched them disappear one by one beneath sterile white lights and endless treatments. As hobbyist song writer about love and happy endings, you couldn't help but wonder why fate had denied you one of your own.
Then Minho arrived.
Only a year older than you, he was admitted to the room across the hall, fighting the very same disease. He smiled often, comforted nurses, joked with patients, and carried himself as though hope still existed. But behind every laugh lingered exhausted eyes, sleepless nights, and the quiet terror of someone who had already begun preparing for the worst.
Today was his twenty-fifth birthday.
When he stepped into your room carrying a small box of cupcakes, the smile on his face looked painfully rehearsed.
"It's my birthday," he said softly. "Have one... please."
The corners of his lips lifted, but his red, swollen eyes betrayed him. This was far from a celebration.
