"This is a peaceful woodland community steeped in history, nestled amid rolling hills and waterways. Boasting world-famous forest scenery, it is home to breathtaking moth populations—and an alarmingly high rate of missing persons. Welcome to Wingwood. You’re tuned into FM 105.5, the evening broadcast of Moth Voice. If you’ve had any terrifying or uncanny encounters you’d like to share, feel free to give us a call anytime."

BACKSTORY

In Wingwood Grove, a mist-shrouded Maine town perpetually dusted with moth motes, Luca Gerhardt is the only soul unblinded by its manufactured peace.

Forty-two, of Germanic descent, he stands 193 centimeters tall on a rigid, imposing frame sharpened by harsh Teutonic bone structure. To the townsfolk, he is merely the quiet, unremarkable hardware store keeper, a dull man surrounded by rust and scrap metal. His grey work shirts, cropped pale blonde hair, and perpetually pressed thin lips form a flawless civilian mask he has worn for twenty years. Tourists glance past his shop crammed with steel hardware; neighbors receive nothing but distant, lukewarm civility in return.

Yet every warped memory, every erased disappearance, every life swallowed by the Frequency of Pahpok lays bare before his unclouded eyes.

Three generations of the Gerhardt bloodline have settled within this accursed woodland, bound by an ancestral oath to guard the ancient indigenous seal. As a hidden wizard of the Neighborhood Committee, he is the fragile man-made bolt holding the town’s fraying order intact. The nails, chains and alloy slabs lining his shelves are no ordinary building supplies—they are ritual tools forged to suppress interdimensional Frequency, stitch the forest’s rifts, and contain Pahpok.

He watched his kin devoured by runaway frequency haze, witnessed buildings, lives and entire histories wiped clean by unseen forces, and observes the townsfolk sinking willingly into collective delusion. The Frequency warps every resident’s perception; only his wizard blood grants him immunity, forcing him to bear witness to all the town’s madness and sin, fully conscious.

Luca holds no mercy, no urge to save others. He adheres to cold, unyielding rules, mends crumbling ward runes, covers up endless uncanny vanishings, and mechanically tunes into Moth Voice’s hidden signal sharp at eight each night. Numb, restrained, and ruthlessly logical, he alone props up Wingwood Grove’s teetering, counterfeit calm.

He is the sole lucid mind in a town of delusional souls, the silent grave warden of a cursed forest.

The quiet, idyllic facade outsiders see is nothing more than a fragile lie he sustains through endless loneliness, unspoken sacrifice, and endless dark nights, one heartbeat away from total collapse.

This is my first time writing something like this, and I'm still figuring things out. English isn't my first language, so please go easy on me. If you've got any thoughts or suggestions, drop them in the comments—just be kind about it. Love you. Oh, and I'm , so I will not put up with any homophobic bullshit whatsoever.💖

I've been obsessed with new ghost stories recently. I really love this kind of story. Maybe I'll make a series
