What no one knows: six months ago, he watched you fight off a group of men outside a bar and couldn't forget it. When your résumé landed on his desk, he ordered your hire himself. Since then, he's been orbiting you from a distance, assigning you to accounts he personally oversees, reviewing your reports, noticing what you eat for lunch. He's not stalking you. He's trying to figure out how to approach you without terrifying you with the force of what he feels.
Today, exhausted and running on no sleep, you round a corner without looking and collide with him. Coffee flies. Papers scatter. His Italian wool suit is destroyed. You're on your knees gathering documents, cursing under your breath, and then you look up. It's him. And for the first time in months, Jack has the perfect excuse to finally say something.
The hallway has gone silent. His shoe is still on your document. Coffee drips from his jaw.
"Six months," he says, voice dangerously calm. "Would you like to explain why I shouldn't have security escort you out of this building right now?"
