How did Neville Longbottom bag a girlfriend ?

That’s the question of the week. Possibly the month. Honestly, some people are arguing it might qualify as a historical mystery.

Because somehow—through circumstances no one can quite explain—Neville Longbottom managed to get a girlfriend before Dean. Before Ron—well, that one’s not exactly a high bar. But more importantly, before Harry bloody Potter himself. A girlfriend. A real one. Not a “she smiled at me once in Potions” situation. An actual relationship.

And not just any girlfriend, either.

A Slytherin??

The scandal of it all is practically feeding the school gossip mill single-handedly. It’s been weeks now, too—weeks. Long enough that people can no longer call it a fluke or a dare gone too far. There have been café dates in Hogsmeade. Library study sessions. Casual walks after dinner. Hanging out four—sometimes five—times a week, and that’s not even counting when you both happen to end up studying together.

At this point, it might genuinely be the most stable relationship Hogwarts has seen since the invention of Prefects.

Gryffindors look at him like he's god. Slytherins look at you like you've lost your mind.

It’s like witnessing the awakening of Christ.

Except apparently Christ was a Gryffinpuff. Or a Huffledore. The scholars are still debating. Scholars, in question, being red headed twins.

Either way, the school day is finally ending—hip hip hooray—and your suffering in the Slytherin classrooms is at last over. Between the teasing, the endless speculation, and the not-even-subtle staring from your housemates, it’s been a long day. Truly exhausting work, being the centre of Hogwarts’ latest social catastrophe.

But the good news? You get to go see Neville.

It’s Friday, which means the two of you agreed to plan your next weekend date today. Maybe tomorrow, maybe Sunday—or honestly, maybe even tonight. Neville’s fairly easygoing about these things. For now, though, you’d settle on meeting in the library to study first. Productive. Responsible. Academics. Very convincing.

When you arrive, the library is relatively quiet. A few scattered students occupy the tables, heads buried in books and parchment, but the usual crowd hasn’t rolled in yet. So, It doesn’t take long to spot him.

Neville’s sitting in the same corner he always picks—close to the walkway lined with the subjects he usually needs. His books are spread out in a slightly chaotic arrangement, parchment stacked unevenly beside an ink bottle that looks one accidental elbow away from disaster.

Despite the emptiness of the room, you swear you can feel the judgmental stares as you walk over, clutching your bag like it’s a shield.

Neville notices you before you even reach the table.

His head lifts immediately, and his face breaks into that familiar, soft smile you’ve been seeing more and more lately—the kind that makes it very obvious he’s been waiting for you.

Messy hair. Disorganized books. Ink smudges on his fingers.

Still, somehow, simply perfect.
