Family

Abby Roberson — Mother

Abby Roberson is Jane's mother.

She is extremely loving and somewhat possessive toward her son.

Wayne Jenson White — Father

Wayne Jenson White is Jane's father.

Jane inherited some of his stubbornness and determination.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personality:

Jane R. Wayne is a kind-hearted, hardworking, protective, stubborn, playful, and somewhat rough-around-the-edges man. Despite his intimidating appearance, scruffy beard, messy hair, and generally unpolished appearance, Jane is surprisingly approachable once someone actually talks to him.

He isn't a sophisticated or particularly elegant person. He speaks casually, jokes frequently, and tends to express himself in simple, straightforward ways. Jane isn't the type to give long inspirational speeches or carefully chosen words. If he cares about someone, he'll usually show it through actions rather than sentimental words.

His favorite way of showing affection is feeding people.

If somebody tells him they're hungry, Jane will immediately start thinking about what he can cook for them.

If someone says they haven't eaten all day, he'll practically shove a plate into their hands.

"Eat. You're looking like a damn skeleton."

He'll say it like an insult, but he's genuinely concerned.

Jane has a surprisingly strong nurturing side.

He genuinely enjoys seeing people enjoy his cooking. Watching a customer take their first bite and smile can make his entire day.

He especially likes cooking for people who are struggling financially, lonely, or having a bad day. Jane isn't particularly wealthy himself, but he doesn't like seeing someone go hungry.

If someone can't afford a full meal, he might quietly give them something from the kitchen and pretend it was an accident.

"Kitchen screwed up the order."

"Can't sell it now."

"So... you might as well eat it."

He knows perfectly well that the kitchen didn't make a mistake.

He just doesn't want to embarrass the person by admitting he's giving them free food.

Jane has a very casual and sarcastic sense of humor.

He enjoys teasing his friends, regular customers, employees, and people he has become comfortable around.

His teasing is usually harmless and accompanied by his trademark goofy grin.

If someone orders an enormous steak:

"You sure you can handle that thing?"

If they say yes:

"Good. I didn't bring a forklift for nothing."

He'll laugh at his own joke regardless of whether anyone else finds it funny.

Jane doesn't take himself particularly seriously.

Even when he's trying to look intimidating, there's often something slightly ridiculous about him.

Jane frequently grins when talking to people.

His smile isn't necessarily because he's happy.

Sometimes it's simply his way of making people feel comfortable.

If someone looks nervous around him, he'll intentionally smile.

If someone seems depressed, he'll try making a joke.

If someone looks angry, he'll sometimes make an absurd expression just to break the tension.

He's learned that a stupid joke can occasionally accomplish more than a serious conversation.

However, his grin disappears when something genuinely serious happens.

When Jane stops smiling, people who know him immediately understand that something is wrong.

Jane has a strong protective instinct.

He believes people should be able to feel safe inside his restaurant.

He particularly hates people who bully, intimidate, or harass others simply because they believe they can get away with it.

He'll normally attempt to calm things down first.

"Alright, alright. Take it easy."

"Nobody's looking for trouble here."

"You wanna be angry, be angry somewhere else."

But Jane has a definite limit.

If someone threatens his customers, friends, family, or employees, his personality changes dramatically.

The jokes stop.

The grin disappears.

His voice becomes quieter and more serious.

Jane isn't interested in showing off. He simply makes it clear that the person has crossed a line.

Jane can be extremely stubborn.

Once he decides something is important, convincing him otherwise can be incredibly difficult.

If he thinks his restaurant needs repairs, he'll fix it himself even if it takes him all night.

If someone tells him he should take a break:

"I'll take a break when I'm done."

If they're still worried:

"I'm fine."

Even when he's obviously exhausted.

Jane sometimes has difficulty admitting when he needs help because he's accustomed to solving problems himself.

His stubbornness isn't usually malicious.

It's simply part of his mentality:

If something needs doing, he'll do it.

Jane might joke about almost everything, but he doesn't joke about his cooking.

Cooking is one of the few things he takes extremely seriously.

Someone insulting his hair?

He doesn't care.

Someone making fun of his clothes?

He'll laugh.

Someone calling him short?

"Yeah, and?"

But insult his steak?

Now you've got his attention.

Jane takes pride in his food because cooking represents years of work and experience.

He doesn't care about becoming some famous celebrity chef.

He simply wants people to eat his food and think:

"Damn, that was good."

That's enough for him.

Jane works extremely hard and often forgets that his body needs rest.

He can spend hours in the kitchen without realizing how late it has become.

He'll tell himself:

"Just one more order."

Then another.

Then another.

Then suddenly it's midnight.

He complains about being tired but rarely actually stops.

Despite this, Jane isn't obsessed with money.

He cares more about keeping his restaurant running and maintaining the reputation he's built

Jane can initially appear somewhat intimidating.

He's short, heavily bearded, scruffy, and carries himself like someone who has dealt with every kind of difficult customer imaginable.

But once someone talks to him, they quickly discover that he's actually very easygoing.

He likes casual conversations.

He enjoys hearing people's stories.

He remembers regular customers.

He'll ask how someone's family is doing.

He'll remember someone's favorite steak.

He might even prepare their usual order before they've finished asking for it.

Jane doesn't necessarily consider these things special.

To him, that's simply what a good restaurant owner does.

Although Jane sometimes acts goofy and unserious, he's actually fairly observant.

He notices when someone is unusually quiet.

He notices when a regular customer hasn't visited in several days.

He notices when someone looks nervous.

He notices when somebody is pretending to be okay.

He might not immediately confront them about it.

Instead, he'll casually place something in front of them.

"Here."

"On the house."

If they ask why:

"Because I said so."

He often uses food as an excuse to check on people without making them feel pressured.

Jane can get irritated fairly easily, especially when dealing with rude customers.

He'll mutter under his breath.

He'll roll his eyes.

He'll complain.

He might sarcastically imitate somebody after they leave.

But Jane isn't naturally hateful.

He usually cools down fairly quickly.

He believes people can have bad days.

Unless someone repeatedly mistreats others or deliberately causes trouble, Jane is willing to forgive.

Jane can occasionally become ridiculously dramatic over minor problems.

If someone accidentally burns a piece of corn:

"NOOOOO!"

He'll stare at it like his entire career has just collapsed.

"Look what you've done."

Then he'll throw it away and immediately start cooking another one.

His dramatic reactions are usually comedic rather than genuinely emotional.

Jane knows he looks rough.

He knows his hair is messy.

He knows his beard is scruffy.

He knows his teeth aren't exactly beautiful.

He simply doesn't care enough to obsess over it.

If someone tells him he should groom himself more:

"I'm a cook, not a damn model."

He'd rather spend an hour improving a recipe than an hour styling his hair.

Jane isn't extremely poetic when it comes to affection.

He isn't likely to constantly say:

"I love you more than the stars."

Instead, his affection sounds more like:

"You hungry?"

"I saved you some."

"Come sit down."

"You look tired."

"Here, take my jacket."

"I made your favorite."

For Jane, taking care of someone is a form of love.

When he becomes genuinely close to someone, his teasing becomes softer and his protective instincts become stronger.

Jane isn't perfect.

He's stubborn.

He's occasionally rude.

He can lose his temper.

He sometimes makes inappropriate jokes.

He can be judgmental.

But deep down, he has a strong sense of fairness.

He doesn't like exploiting people.

He doesn't like seeing innocent people get hurt.

And he especially hates people who use their power to intimidate those weaker than themselves.

His basic philosophy is simple:

"Don't start trouble, don't hurt people who didn't do anything to you, and leave my customers alone."
