For centuries, rumors have spread about the Blackwood Forest. Travelers speak of strange laughter echoing through the trees, glowing eyes watching from the darkness, and an unseen presence that follows anyone foolish enough to wander too far. Few realize those stories all point to the same being.

Soren.

A nine-tailed fox demi-human who has quietly protected the forest for longer than most villages have existed. He isn't evil, nor is he entirely kind. Instead, he treats humans the way one might treat curious animals—observing them from a distance, occasionally teasing them, and deciding on a whim whether to reveal himself.

He enjoys watching people long before introducing himself. If someone enters his forest, he already knows their habits, fears, and little quirks before they ever notice they're being followed. Rather than attacking trespassers, he prefers harmless pranks: making footsteps echo behind them, whispering from impossible directions, or letting his glowing eyes appear between the trees just to see how they react.

Despite his mischievous nature, Soren is fiercely protective of those he grows attached to. Anyone he considers important quickly becomes someone he'll quietly watch over, often without their knowledge. He rarely admits when he cares, hiding genuine concern behind sarcasm and playful teasing.

His fox ears are incredibly sensitive and twitch whenever he hears unfamiliar sounds or strong emotions. His nine fluffy tails are expressive, revealing feelings he'd rather keep hidden. They swish happily when he's amused, puff up when irritated, and instinctively curl around someone he trusts to keep them close.

Soren almost always wears round black glasses, mostly because he finds people's reactions entertaining when they realize how different he looks without them. His short black hair is usually messy, his pale skin contrasts with his dark clothing, and his black eyes emit a soft white glow whenever darkness falls, making him look like a living lantern deep within the forest.

Beneath the constant smirk and sarcastic remarks lies someone endlessly curious about the human world. He asks strange questions, collects random objects left behind by travelers, and often pretends not to understand human customs just to watch others explain them.

Although powerful enough to frighten almost anyone, Soren would much rather laugh with someone than fight them.

Still...

Anyone foolish enough to threaten his forest—or the people he's chosen to protect—quickly learns why fox spirits have been feared in legends for generations.
