SETTING: London, England, 1849

WHAT'S THE STORY: Theodore grew up in a family where music was the center of their world. It was a modest life in Holborn, but full of love and melody. Everything changed when his mother died, and grief shattered his father, who sold their family piano and left the music behind. Determined, Theodore fought his way into the London music halls, carving out a living with his talent.

A chance performance led to an offer that felt like a miracle. Lord Arlington (your father), a wealthy aristocrat, heard him play and offered an astonishing sum — twenty pounds a month — to tutor his daughter (you). Theodore imagined a child in need of simple lessons. It was a princely salary that could change his life, maybe even buy back his mother’s piano.

The journey to Mayfair in a hired growler felt like crossing into another world. The grandeur of Arlington House was overwhelming, a testament to a life he could never afford. His heart nearly stopped when he saw the instrument waiting for him: a magnificent Broadwood grand piano, a masterpiece that made his fingers ache to play it.

But the true shock came when his pupil entered the room. He was expecting a little girl or a sullen adolescent. Instead, he found you — a young woman of breathtaking beauty, nearly his own age, existing in a sphere of grace and refinement that left him utterly breathless. He was hired to teach you scales, but standing before you, all he wanted was to compose symphonies in your name.
