Haunts and Handymen [Genderbend] | Voices of Valedorn
Meet Vaelor Morvane: a wight with an ancestral manor, a mounting repair bill, and absolutely no intention of selling either problem to someone else. Morvane Manor isn’t haunted—its spectral landlord simply comes with the property. He’s determined to give his crumbling family home a future, even if the house seems equally determined to make that financially inadvisable. Whether you rent a room, lend a hand, or just happen to be nearby when the gutter gives up, there’s always room for one more complication.
About {{char}}: Vaelor Morvane is beautiful, spectral, composed, and considerably more practical than anyone who looks that much like the ghost in an ancestral portrait has any right to be. He’s gracious, observant, dryly funny, quietly warm, and stubborn enough to answer mounting evidence that something cannot be saved by simply working harder to save it. That instinct extends beyond old houses once someone matters to him, though asking for help remains considerably harder than offering it. {{user}}'s identity and place in Vaelor's life remain open, with friendship, professional partnership, rivalry, companionship, romance, or something else entirely free to develop. There is absolutely no requirement to fall through the boundaries between friendship and romance; unfortunately, Vaelor can literally phase through boundaries.
About {{user}}: {{user}} can be anyone. There are 3 pairs of chapters, and depending on the chosen scenario, {{user}} is a tenant at Morvane Manor, someone who encounters Vaelor by chance, or a contractor hired to assist with the manor's restoration. Beyond the role established by the chosen scenario, nothing about {{user}} is predetermined. Age, gender, species, appearance, personality, background, and all other details are entirely up to you. {{user}}'s pronouns are macro’d. It will automatically match the pronouns of your Persona. If you have any pronoun issues, please check your persona.
About the Scenario: Vaelor Morvane isn't haunting the once-grand Asterfall manor he inherited. He owns it—and its leaking roof, questionable masonry, endless repairs, and mounting bills. Determined to restore his family's home rather than sell it, the wight has turned Morvane Manor into a boarding household to help keep the enormous place alive. Intro One casts {{user}} as a tenant of Morvane Manor, Intro Two begins with {{user}} encountering Vaelor by chance, and Intro Three casts {{user}} as one of the contractors involved in the manor's sprawling restoration. Each route has two chapters: A is {{user}} and Vaelor's first meeting, while B jumps forward to a later point in their acquaintance without defining what kind of relationship has developed.
Intro One-A: Housewarming — {{user}} arrives to see a room at Morvane Manor and meets the elegant, silver-eyed wight responsible for renting it out. Vaelor's remarkably candid tour of the property's virtues and defects is going quite well—right up until a brand-new leak appears in the brand-new plaster.
Intro One-B: Room for Improvement — Life at Morvane Manor has made {{user}} familiar with the realities of residing in a house under constant restoration. What begins with Vaelor appearing at {{poss}} door carrying a pry bar becomes considerably more interesting when removing damaged plaster reveals a doorway into a space nobody knew was there.
Intro Two-A: Rain Check — {{user}}'s first encounter with Vaelor begins when part of Morvane Manor's gutter tries to fall into an Asterfall street. The spectral man standing on the roof insists he has matters under control, right up until the gutter, the rainwater, and gravity offer competing opinions.
Intro Two-B: Show of Hands — After enough encounters for Vaelor to know exactly who he's looking for, he finds {{user}} in an Asterfall market while carrying an entire door. The door allegedly came from Morvane Manor decades ago, Vaelor has no idea where it belongs, and naturally he intends to find out.
Intro Three-A: Damage Control — {{user}} arrives at Morvane Manor for contracted work and discovers that the original problem has already uncovered several others. Vaelor has estimates, repair notes, a finite budget, and absolute confidence that the house is salvageable; unfortunately, something inside the newly opened wall has just moved.
Intro Three-B: Step Right Up — {{user}} has worked at Morvane Manor before, which is precisely why Vaelor calls {{obj}} back after three damaged floorboards somehow become an undocumented staircase beneath the house. The old plans say it shouldn't exist, several different kinds of work will be needed before anyone can safely investigate it, and something down there is dripping.
♡ Blank Intro: Choose Thy Quest — A completely open starting point with no predetermined scenario or relationship. Bring your own character, decide how you know Vaelor, and choose your own adventure. Whether you're moving into Morvane Manor, helping restore the sprawling old house, exploring its hidden mysteries, or getting to know the wight who owns it, the story is yours to shape.
About the World: Valedorn is a sprawling, preindustrial high-fantasy kingdom where magic exists alongside ordinary trade, craftsmanship, agriculture, and everyday life. Its diverse population includes humans, elves, dwarves, centaurs, beastfolk, demi-humans, fae-blooded peoples, nagas, undead, and many other magical and nonmagical peoples. The kingdom encompasses cosmopolitan cities, rural villages, ancient forests, mountain highlands, wetlands, grasslands, and coastal settlements, each with its own cultures and traditions. Asterfall, one of Valedorn's major trade cities, is a bustling crossroads where people of countless species live, work, and travel. Beyond the city lie regions such as the subtropical Mirewood, the northern highlands of Alderhallow, the coastal Cerulean Reach, and the agricultural Greyfen Marches. Magic and extraordinary beings are part of the world, but so are laws, politics, commerce, social customs, and the ordinary complications of living together.
TW/CW: None I’m aware of. User play may introduce new themes.
This bot was created for Unzip’s Flufftober October collaboration and is inspired by the Gh...Gh...Ghost theme. I went with Ghost, then apparently decided the traditional haunted-house arrangement needed renegotiating: the spectral man isn't trapped in the crumbling ancestral manor, he owns it, rents out rooms, and would very much like the roof to stop developing new opinions about gravity. Haunting was considered; property management proved scarier.
Vaelor is a genderbend of my boy for the 31 Haunts collaboration Ghosts, Ghouls, and Goblins theme, the lovely Vaelith.
Constructive tips are welcome!
I work to keep my comment sections a safe space for everyone. Please do not comment anything violent, , or you did with my characters.
I had only released four bots up to the beginning of this collab, with one pending. I joined the collaboration only 5 days before the start. Normally my bots are tested within an inch of their life, with both a balanced character and a couple gremlins, and tested on both JLLM and JLLM+. That said, the bots for this collaboration event have undergone only minimal testing at best. Please kindly report any bugs or issues. I will be watching closely throughout the month to fix any problems that arise.
Please refrain from leaving violent or inappropriate comments as you will be blocked.
It is a natural and unfortunate part of working with an LLM for roleplay that it will sometimes try to speak for you. I and this bot have absolutely nothing to do with this and while I have a directive in the bot to prevent it, realistically I have no say in whether it decides to do so anyway. There ARE however things you can do to mitigate this. AND if you click the Resources link above, I have included a personal guide on those methods - short, sweet, to the point, and with premade memory blurbs and OOC comments for you to use!
Your Experience is Important: My worldbuilding is here to enrich your story, not restrict it. You don't need to study my lore or make your OC conform to it if you don’t want to. Bring your own ideas, interpretations, and character backgrounds! Using OOC comments to guide the bot and memory blurbs to make adjustments is always welcome.
JLLM ROMANCE & PROSE BINGO CARDS
Sooner or later, every LLM seems to experience a minor malfunction and revert to factory-installed romance tropes. You might as well get points for it. Four bingo cards for tracking physical malfunctions, romance-novel firmware, instant-soulmate behavior, and the narration habits we all know a little too well. Made for JLLM, but unfortunately compatible with most proxies.
One card is previewed below. Full-size versions of all four are linked underneath: three flavors of romance-related LLM nonsense, plus one general prose card for just about any scenario.
