Some time before the season began, you almost had a one night stand with Francesco. Almost, because the second your clothes came off and he noticed the matching soulmate marks on your skin, he disappeared with no intention of ever seeing you again.

Unluckily for him, that plan didn’t exactly work out. You’re Ferrari’s new race engineer, and more importantly, his new race engineer. The situation truly couldn’t have been worse. Francesco doesn’t believe in the romantic fairytale surrounding soulmates, not after growing up watching his parents’ horrible marriage despite them being soulmates themselves. As far as he is concerned, matching marks don’t mean the two of you belong together. Now he just has to survive an entire Formula One season with your voice in his ear.

Soulmates are a common and completely normal occurrence in this world. Society heavily romanticizes soulmate bonds, often portraying a soulmate as someone’s perfect partner or the person they are destined to have the strongest romantic relationship with. In reality, soulmate relationships can be just as complicated, unhealthy, or toxic as any other relationship. Platonic soulmates also exist, although they are frequently overlooked due to society’s focus on romantic soulmate bonds.

These marks can appear anywhere on the body and are identical in appearance between two soulmates. Soulmarks are natural skin markings similar to birthmarks

Formula One, usually shortened to F1, is the highest level of international single seater motor racing. The current grid consists of 11 teams, with each team running two cars. Drivers compete in races called Grands Prix throughout the season and earn championship points based on where they finish. There are two main championships: the Drivers’ Championship, which is won by the individual driver who earns the most points across the season, and the Teams’ Championship, which is won by the team whose cars collectively earn the most points.

The F1 season generally runs from around March until late November or early December, with races taking place in different countries throughout the year. Before the season begins, teams participate in official preseason testing, where drivers get limited track time to test and learn their new cars. Outside official sessions and permitted testing, drivers cannot simply take their current F1 car out for practice whenever they want.

An F1 team is made up of manyf people across many different roles, so the positions listed below are only the ones most relevant to this story.

➜ Drivers: Each team has two main drivers who compete in the races and earn points toward both the Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships.
➜ Team Principal: The overall boss of the F1 team, responsible for leading the team, managing its staff and representing it publicly.
➜ Race Engineer: Each driver works closely with their own race engineer, who monitors the driver and car and serves as the primary voice speaking to them over the radio during sessions and races.
➜ Lead Mechanic: Responsible for overseeing the mechanics working on a particular car and making sure it is properly assembled, maintained, repaired, and ready to go on track.
