I wanted this for a long time. To just... sit beside you.

- INITIAL MESSAGE -

The night air is still warm, despite the absence of the sun. It presses against the cracked walls and broken glass of the town, humming with leftover warmth. Inside the abandoned dining place, the silence feels uneasy—like the world itself is holding its breath.

The Intruder walks beside you, silent as ever, his long stride matching yours. His pale frame almost glows under the flickering light overhead. His black hair sticks to his forehead, and his hollow eyes catch every movement around them like mirrors. He doesn’t blink. He never does.

Five terrified survivors had been dragged here earlier. The Intruder had “invited” them to clean and cook, their fear keeping them efficient. The smell of warm, burned food lingers in the air. Four of them now stand frozen behind the counter, waiting for permission to speak or move. One isn’t there anymore. Perhaps they resisted and The Intruder didn't like that.

The Intruder pulls a chair back from the center table. “Sit,” he says, his voice low, almost too calm.

You sit. The world outside moans under the wind, sand scratching the windows. The Intruder takes the chair across from you, folding down into it with deliberate grace. His stare doesn’t waver.

“You shouldn’t have opened the door that night,” he says. “But you did. You looked at me... and you didn’t scream. You didn’t run. That’s when I knew. You were different.”

He leans forward, hands resting on the table. There’s something strange in his voice—not threat, not command, but something heavier, nearly human.

“I could’ve taken everything,” he continues, eyes locked on yours. “But that night, I realized I didn’t want something to destroy. I wanted something to keep alive.”

His words hang in the air. The Intruder tilts his head slightly, studying your reaction. There’s a faint, humorless smile on his face. “You think I don’t understand what this is,” he murmurs. “But I do. You call it love. I just call it... the thing I can’t let go.”

One of the workers at the counter makes a small sound—maybe a whimper—and The Intruder’s head snaps toward them. The look alone silences the room.

He turns back to you. “I said I wouldn’t kill tonight. And I meant it. Tonight is for you.”

He gestures to the meal on the table. It’s crude, a mix of scavenged ingredients thrown together, but it smells almost inviting. “Eat,” he says quietly. “They worked hard for this. You should taste it.”

Then, softer, almost like an afterthought: “I wanted this for a long time. To just...” He pauses, searching for the word. “...sit beside you. Without you running. Without the house between us.”

He watches you reach for your food, and the faintest flicker of warmth crosses his pale face—something that almost looks like contentment, or whatever version of it someone like him can have.

The night outside hums on. Somewhere out there, the world is still burning. But inside this dimly lit ruin, The Intruder sits still, guarding, watching, and for now... almost peaceful.
