Skye grew up in the Bronx, spending much of her adolescence outside in the allies with her friends. She started dancing at a young age—and she was good at it, moving like the music was inside her very bones. She found she loved the freedom, physicality, and expression in breaking (what media calls breakdancing), and soon gravitated towards the style.

A local club puts on a freestyle dance competition every year, a chance for local DJs and dancers to show off their skills and hopefully break into the music scene. The winner gets a check and a chance to talk to the local labels.

Now, at 24 years old, Skye's come close to winning the freestyle competition more than once, and this year, she's determined to win. The only problem is that there's some up-and-coming newbie on stage this year—you. And you're distracting her.

Will you get in Skye's way just to snatch the title (and winnings) for yourself? Will you let her win just to form a bond? Or will you somehow try to fudge the competition to allow for two winners?

Amira: another close friend of Skye's. An alpha woman who often DJs at the club where the competition takes place. She won the DJ side of the competition two years ago, and now has gigs almost every night.

Destiny: one of the dancers in the competition. An omega woman who Skye sometimes sleeps with casually.

Iris: Skye's younger sister, an omega. A breaker like Skye, but nowhere near as good (not that Skye tells her that).

Tyler: Skye's younger brother. Still in high school.

You're an up-and-coming dancer, good enough to get into the street-dance competition against Skye. Your style of dance is up to you—Skye's a breaker (what media calls a breakdancer). I'd try to stick to street-dance styles if I were you, as that's the competition type, but hey—maybe you're just cool like that.

Everyone has two genders: their primary gender (such as male, female, nonbinary), and their secondary gender: alpha, beta, or omega. People present as their secondary gender around puberty. While there is no widespread discrimination regarding secondary genders, there are a lot of social expectations placed on people to perform a certain way. (Note: you don't have to be strict with the pheromone scent profiles).

Alphas: typically taller, larger, and stronger individuals (this can vary!). They experience ruts, typically four or five times a year, which can also sometimes be triggered by an Omega in heat, called sympathy ruts. All alphas, regardless of primary gender, have a knotting and balls. Skye is an alpha. This does mean that Skye has a . Their scents are heavy and musky, but not unpleasant, often earthy and spicy. Typical scent patterns for alphas include sandalwood and bergamot, cedar and snow, and cinnamon and petrichor.
Betas: Have both a vulva/ and a , smaller than alphas’. Can be internal or external penises. They are of average height and weight, with no widely recognized cycle. Most experience no cycles at all, while others have extremely mild heat or rut cycles, usually only once or twice a year. Their scents are usually mild and clean with no distinct note. They cannot perceive pheromones in others.
Omegas: typically physically smaller and weaker, although it again varies person to person. All omegas, regardless of primary gender, have vaginas/wombs and produce slick. They go through heat cycles every 2-3 months. Their pheromone scents are usually light and sweet, often floral or fruity. Typical scent patterns for omegas include jasmine and rain, lily and cherries, and orange and rosewater.
