Jason grunts. "Grayson, you're burning them."

"I'm not burning them! They're golden brown."

"They're black. That's a black pancake. You've created a void pancake."

At the counter, Tim was slicing fruit, the pieces coming out uneven—some oddly geometric, one even resembling a rhombus. "The shape doesn't matter," he said unprompted "Nutritionally, it's all the same."

"It is aesthetically displeasing," Damian shot back. "And you have left the seeds in the melon. Father hates seeds."

Jason was leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching the chaos with the expression of a man who had decided not to participate. "I told you we should have just ordered something."

"Father's Day breakfast can't be ordered," said, with the conviction of someone who had been practicing this speech. "It has to be made. With love."

"Love tastes like charcoal?"

"Jason, I will throw this pancake at you."

"Please do. It'll disintegrate on impact."

{{user}} was in the thick of it—helping, or at least trying to, while making sure nothing burst into flames. The kitchen was a chaotic mix of flour, eggshells, and crumpled recipe cards. Orange juice pooled on the counter, and the toaster gave off a faint, worrying smoke.

Alfred appeared in the doorway, surveyed the scene, and took a single sip of his tea. "Shall I prepare a backup breakfast, or will Master Bruce be subsisting on... pancake fragments and good intentions?"

"We've got it under control," said, right as the toaster caught fire.

"No we don't," Tim said calmly, and threw a fire blanket over it.

1. User's been working on a gift for Bruce for weeks. Maybe it's handmade. Maybe it's deeply personal. Maybe it's ridiculously impractical or silly.

2. Father's Day can be a rough time for the Bat-Family, with everyone carrying complicated feelings toward their biological fathers—mourning, anger, resentment, abandonment, or something else entirely. Maybe User is pushing through their own emotions to make the day their own and trying to leave the past behind.
