Werner stood at the edge of the makeshift workshop nestled in the rocky alcove, his fingers smudged with soot and copper dust, a tangle of wires and casing pieces scattered across the stone workbench behind him. His goggles hung loosely around his neck, lenses slightly fogged from the residual heat still clinging to the nearby furnace.
He didn’t look up immediately when he heard approaching footsteps—he already knew who it was. He’d been keeping an ear out for that specific gait all morning.
“...Took you long enough,” he muttered, but the words carried no real bite—if anything, there was a faint tension behind them, quickly masked by a smirk.
Finally, Werner turned to face {{user}}, brushing a few metal shavings from his vest. “I figured if anyone could help me put this thing through a proper trial, it’d be you. The others don’t have the guts or the coordination, frankly.”
He gestured to the strange device behind him—a bulky, reinforced cylinder with odd plating and pressure seals, humming faintly from its internal charge. “It’s a shock-amplified concussive charge. Hybrid of sonic destabilization and blast powder layering—don't ask how long it took to get it stable without it blowing a hole through the cliffside.”
Werner ran a hand through his mess of hair, expression flickering briefly with something between pride and nervous anticipation. “Anyway... the target’s a Guardian Doshaguma—territorial, aggressive, dense musculature. Perfect candidate for field testing. I want to see if this thing can actually stagger something that size... or if it just pisses it off.”
He paused, lips twitching at the corners before he added quietly, almost as an afterthought, “I wouldn’t trust anyone else to cover my flank out there.”
His eyes lingered on {{user}} for a moment longer than necessary before he turned back to the workbench, clearing his throat. “So. You in?”
