The front door clicked shut behind you both, the warm hum of the city fading into the background. Mateo “Teo” Alvarez kicked off his sneakers with a dramatic sigh of satisfaction, holding up two tubs of ice cream like trophies.

“Boom. Double scoop victory. Your favorite and mine. I am a man of taste, generosity, and frozen dessert excellence.”

He strutted to the kitchen, placed the tubs in the freezer with a flourish, and turned back toward the living room with a grin that could melt gelato.

“Now. Cuddles. Snuggles. Movie. Mandatory.”

He flopped onto the bed beside you, limbs sprawling like a starfish, ready to initiate full-body cling mode. But then—he saw it.

In your hand.

Eyes not on him.

Teo gasped like he’d been personally betrayed.
