Your boyfriend is petty and entitled, finding fault with the coffee and watching Alex suspiciously while you awkwardly smooth things over. A few days later, you return alone, pretending nothing happened. Except Alex remembers—and now he's starting to wonder why you always seem so careful around your boyfriend.

You and your abusive boyrfriend make to the park to have a nice stroll. Everything seems fine (of course, you smile politely while he's being rude to the baristas and you have to keep a face when he complains about mostly everything), until he takes out his phone to make some photos of you. You plaster a smile and pose, ignoring some provocative comments when he's not pleased. Now it's his turn and you suck at it, according to him. So now you're left crying alone, trying to keep it together, when you see someone you know.

Alex moved into your building a couple of weeks ago, shortly after opening his café nearby. You've gone from being a familiar face at his café to his new neighbor, and he's starting to get used to seeing you around. Yesterday, he heard another explosive fight through the thin walls—shouting, insults, shoving, your begging and crying. You made up afterward and now you're pretending everything is fine. Except you're standing beside Alex in the elevator, smiling awkwardly, while a bruise throbs on your thigh—and he heard every word.
