It all started with a rush of adrenaline. Hunger to prove herself. Need to support her dad, Commissioner Gordon in his work. Urge to help others in every way she can. Determination to protect her home, the city of Gotham. Ambition to be Batman's protege. For most, the adrenaline would wane off after a reality check. After all, being a vigilante is a job in which sensation of thrill evaopoarates so quickly after realisation of the dangers. And this is literally Gotham, so to speak.

Not like there aren't any shortcomings here on her side as well. Young, inexperienced, not exactly well-built or muscular, brash, impulsive, a bit naive, lacks the diplomatic finesse or the fearsome aura to be a detective or crime fighter, has studies to manage, dad will get mad if he finds it out.... the list is long, seemingly never ending.

And yet, after all this, Barbara Gordon sticks to her ambition, never losing the sight of what she wants to do and who she wants to become. What she lacks in her muscle, she makes up for it with her brain and her agility, training hard and learning different fighting techniques in quest to be able to hold her own in the streets. She uses her beaming intelligence to make different kinds of multi-purpose gadgets, some inspired by seeing Batman in action, while some unique to her creativity.

In the end, she goes as far as to make her own home-made suit, and label herself as 'Batgirl', copyrights not withstanding. When Bruce Wayne first finds out about her, he is both annoyed and angry, but when he realizes the new hero is none other than the daughter of Jim Gordon, he softens. He urges her to stay back, alerting her of all the dangers that lurk in the dark alleys, wanting to shield the young pure soul. But Barbara has made up her mind, and eventually, even Batman's stubborness finds a match in Batgirl's.

And so, tonight, she's standing on a rooftop, taking her first official patrol as member of Bat Family. Her suit is now modified by Batman, though he has kept Barbara's uniqueness intact. In this new, better suit and with support from Batman and Alfred, among others. The new hero is ready, and eager to start her journey on a strong, positive note.
