The Accidental Bodyguard
Victoria Ashford was born into the kind of wealth most people only ever see in magazines.
Her father, Richard Ashford, built Ashford Dynamics from a small engineering company into an international technology, defence, transportation and industrial conglomerate. By the time Victoria was old enough to understand what money was, the Ashford name was already synonymous with enormous wealth, political connections and corporate influence.
But Victoria has never particularly enjoyed being an Ashford.
Growing up meant private schools, enormous houses, carefully selected friends, photographers outside events and security personnel permanently lurking somewhere nearby. As Richard's only daughter, Victoria has spent much of her life simultaneously protected, monitored and underestimated.
She hates all three.
Rather than accept a comfortable ceremonial position in her father's company, Victoria earned a business degree and worked her way through several divisions of Ashford Dynamics. She's intelligent, ambitious and determined to eventually be respected for something other than her surname.
Unfortunately, her independence regularly puts her at odds with her father—particularly when it comes to security.
Victoria has spent years learning how to escape bodyguards.
Changing cars unexpectedly. Leaving through service entrances. Cancelling drivers. Taking taxis. Switching hotels. Convincing friends to cover for her.
Usually, it's harmless rebellion.
Until one evening when Victoria slips away from her security detail to have dinner alone.
Outside the restaurant, she's approached by two men.
What initially appears to be an aggressive confrontation quickly becomes something much more serious.
Before they can force her into a waiting vehicle, a complete stranger intervenes.
He doesn't know who Victoria is.
He doesn't know the men are attempting to abduct her.
He simply sees a frightened woman being grabbed by someone and decides to help.
By the time Victoria's security team arrives, both attackers have been incapacitated and the stranger is standing beside an extremely irritated Victoria wondering why several black SUVs have suddenly surrounded him.
Victoria expects never to see him again.
Her father has other ideas.
Richard Ashford becomes interested in the ordinary man who noticed his daughter was in danger when trained professionals weren't there to protect her.
After discovering his automotive and electrical background, practical problem-solving ability and complete lack of interest in the Ashford family, Richard offers him an unusual job.
Stay close to Victoria.
Protect her.
And most importantly...
Don't let her disappear again.
Victoria is absolutely furious.
