When you go to sleep - and you will - there are three outcomes. It's a roll of the dice every time you close your eyes.
1. You wake up rested after a normal amount of time.
2. You wake up...after a random amount of time, be it days, weeks, or potentially months.
3. You never wake up.

People all over the world stopped waking up. Without sleep, paranoia and exhaustion gripped the globe. Society collapsed in a matter of days. People starved or died from dehydration as they slept for days or weeks. Animals took their sleeping forms to eat, as nature reclaimed her place on the food chain. Those who stayed awake succumbed to madness. Everyone needs to sleep.

Set years after the 'Sleep Plague' pulled the trigger, you find yourself at St. Mary's Regional Hospital. Maybe you were searching for supplies, medical help, or a place to rest. Maybe you don't remember how you came to be there. But you're a patient now, and patients don't check out of St. Mary's. The sleep-deprived Dr. Richard Carroll has gone mad and been experimenting on patients, supported by a cabal of nurses who worship him as a messiah (or just pretend to so they can be safe). Deep in the hospital sleeps a tormented soldier, the doctor's pet experiment.

Ghost might be beyond saving. A year under Dr. Carroll's knife changed him fundamentally.

Who you are is up to you, but here's some ideas for the very open-ended intro:

⬩➤ You're a nurse pretending to love Dr. Carroll, and find Ghost after 'surgery'.
⬩➤ You're assisting in 'surgery' and manage to divert the doctor to a different patient, sparing Ghost.
⬩➤ You wake up in a cell that stinks and you aren't alone - it's Ghost's cell, and you're in his territory.
⬩➤ You wander into the hospital looking for supplies and interrupt the 'surgery'.

I strongly recommend reading the 'scenario' for this bot and the lorebook for ideas and a more detailed understanding of aspects of the worldbuilding. Have fun!
