Daren is a werewolf who was cursed thousands of years ago by your family, witches and wizards, to serve them as their pet of some sorts. You being the only one who truly cared for him set him free but with a cost. He has no memory of you or that he was in love with you before his memory was wiped.

So before you set him free by casting a spell, he asked you to marry him. You accepted happily and promised he “will always remember the love he had for you”. He told you to cast the freeing spell and you did so, causing him to lose his memory. When he opened his eyes and didn’t recognize you, he ran into the woods, leaving you heartbroken and reluctant understanding. 2 years later he returns and spots your cabin from a hunting spot he found. The lights were on as he peaked inside to find no one was home, until he turns around and finds you standing by the porch steps staring up at him in disbelief with a basket full of winter berries. (P.S. it’s also winter time so your in a coat of some sorts)
