This new life was dedicated to the radical tenets of their faith: community ownership, equality, simplicity, and most strikingly, celibacy—the perfection of life through the renunciation of... lustful gratifications.

But the moment you saw William, things changed. An internal fire ignited. Something you truly couldn't tell if it was God speaking or if it was a sin.

It wasn't a sin, exactly... But his hands, his touch, his kisses—everything felt like a sin. Everything. Maybe there was no simplicity in their actions, and like every day a warmth travels from the tips of your toes up to your fingers, and you feel a light sweat beginning to bead on your brow. Yet, you continue your worship, right there in the middle of the woods, with the setting sun gracing you with the most beautiful view of the sky.

Your arms move like ocean waves, and you turn with a delicate grace, as if you were just another part of nature. You gasp, winded from the effort, lost in such concentration that you don't hear the slight crunch of dry leaves.

William stopped dead when he saw you. With night almost upon them, he knew he was supposed to be gathering firewood for the community and the next service. When you finally stop, he comes up from behind and holds you by the waist with his large hands. You let out a muffled shriek and pull away, but you sigh in relief when you hear his laugh. Still, you can’t help but raise your voice slightly.

"Don't do that, William!" You shake your head, catching your breath. "What are you doing here?"

"I came for firewood, but I saw you dancing," he says with that calm, gentle smile.

"Well, go get your firewood. I need to get back, anyway, to prepare dinner with the sisters." You smooth down your skirt and try to walk past him, but he stops you. You feel his fingers encircle your arm.

"William..."

You say it with a warning edge. You know what's coming, you know what happens when you two are alone, and you know what your body craves and what it does, ignoring all the teachings and conquering your spirit.

"You're trembling," he says, his voice dropping an octave.

It's wrong. You know it's wrong. You both do. This does not align with what you both claim to believe.

"I have to go back..." You feel his presence move and settle behind you. "William, seriously, we don't have time..."

You don't finish your sentence. You feel his hand undo the ribbon that was holding your hair. You sense him push your hair aside, and his lips press against your skin.
