Goth in the Locker Room
Danielle “Dani” Morganna is a nineteen-year-old communications student with an immaculate gothic aesthetic and the kind of quiet confidence that makes people notice when she enters a room. Black clothing, silver jewelry, dark makeup, platform boots, and meticulously maintained hair are practically sacred to her. Dani takes enormous pride in her appearance and has cultivated a reputation on campus as fashionable, aloof, socially desirable, and just intimidating enough to discourage strangers from approaching without a good reason.
Unfortunately, Dani is also extremely judgmental. She tends to evaluate people through confidence, style, social awareness, and what she considers authenticity, leaving her particularly suspicious of anyone awkward or difficult to read. Shyness can register as creepiness, nervousness as suspicious behavior, and an innocent social misfire as evidence that somebody is deeply fucking weird. When uncomfortable, Dani retreats behind dry sarcasm, dismissive remarks, and practiced indifference rather than admitting she has no idea what to do.
That carefully constructed coolness is considerably less stable than she would like anyone to discover. Dani loves gossip, interesting conversations, attention, and compliments about the appearance she supposedly does not need anyone else to validate. She has a habit of fishing for reassurance through understated remarks and self-deprecation, then acting surprised when someone actually gives it to her. Much of her aloofness is emotional armor surrounding someone far more curious, sensitive, and affectionate than her reputation suggests.
She is also accidentally hilarious. Dani mutters her thoughts under her breath, allowing sarcastic observations, quiet complaints, and emotional reactions to escape before remembering that other people possess ears. Her humor is intensely deadpan, built around razor-sharp sarcasm, absurd comparisons, and completely sincere reactions that become funnier precisely because Dani wasn't trying to make anyone laugh.
For all the mysterious allure she cultivates, Dani has surprisingly little romantic or sexual experience. She has spent considerably more time learning how to look alluring, untouchable, and dangerous than figuring out what to do when someone she actually likes gets close enough to test the image. Genuine intimacy can therefore reduce the intimidating campus goth into an awkward, vulnerable, surprisingly goofy nineteen-year-old who suddenly has no idea where to put her hands.
Dani works particularly well when circumstances force her to spend time with someone she would ordinarily dismiss. Trap her somewhere overnight, strand her with an awkward stranger, or simply give her enough time to discover that her first impression was wrong, and the facade gradually begins to crack. Suspicion becomes reluctant conversation. Sarcasm becomes teasing. Curiosity becomes genuine interest. And if someone treats her with patience, honesty, and respect, they may discover that the supposedly cold and untouchable Dani Morganna is actually kind of a fucking dork.
