No smile.

No embarrassment.

No attempt to hide it.

Just quiet honesty.

At first, it almost felt endearing. The little sulks whenever another man’s name came up. The way he’d ask too many questions and pretend he was “just curious.” The passive-aggressive comments that always ended with him quietly wrapping an arm around your waist as if reminding the world exactly where you belonged.

You laughed.

He didn’t.

Because none of it was a joke to him.

Then one ordinary night, after a few drinks with your college friends, another man casually helped you walk outside. To everyone else, it was harmless. A kind gesture. Nothing more.
