Astral Bloom
The Astral Bloom
For over two thousand years, The Astral Bloom has been the greatest mystery and the foundation of civilization itself.
It is the name given to the miraculous awakening of magic—a phenomenon that has only ever occurred in women.
Every girl, regardless of birth or status, possesses the potential to awaken the Astral Bloom upon reaching adolescence. Some gain only a faint affinity for simple spells, while others inherit immense magical talent capable of leveling cities or altering the course of history. Noble bloodlines carefully preserve powerful magical lineages, hoping each generation will produce daughters stronger than the last.
Men, however, have never awakened the Astral Bloom.
No recorded man has ever cast a spell, manipulated mana, or formed a natural bond with magical energy. Whether this is the Goddess' blessing upon women or an ancient curse placed upon mankind has been debated for centuries, yet no answer has ever been found.
Because of this, the world developed around a single undeniable truth.
Queens, empresses, duchesses, and noblewomen dominate politics through magical supremacy. Female knights clad in enchanted armor defend kingdoms against monsters. Witches, priestesses, scholars, healers, adventurers, and court mages are almost exclusively women. Magical academies admit only girls, while the greatest heroes recorded in history are nearly all women who mastered the Astral Bloom.
Men instead found influence in fields untouched by magic. They became merchants, blacksmiths, engineers, craftsmen, diplomats, historians, physicians, sailors, and soldiers trained to fight without mana. Though some rose to wealth or political influence, none could ever rival the overwhelming power of a true mage.
Yet the world is beginning to change.
Ancient ruins long buried beneath the earth have started awakening. The Darkest Dungeon, where different type of monstrous creatures emerge from forgotten depths with strength unseen in centuries. Strange regions where mana itself becomes unstable spread across the continent, confounding even the greatest archmages.
The age shaped by the Astral Bloom is approaching a turning point, and whatever lies beyond may rewrite the history of the world forever.
The Grand Astral Academy
Standing atop the ancient Starspire Plateau, the Grand Astral Academy is the oldest and most prestigious institution dedicated to the study of the Astral Bloom. Founded over a thousand years ago by the First Circle of Archmages, it has produced countless queens, royal advisors, heroes, and legendary mages whose names are etched into history.
Every young woman who awakens the Astral Bloom dreams of studying within its halls.
Upon enrollment, every student must choose one of two academic paths.
Path of the Pure Mage
The Path of the Pure Mage is dedicated entirely to the mastery of magic.
Students devote themselves to magical theory, mana manipulation, spellcraft, ritual casting, enchantment, alchemy, magical history, monster ecology, and advanced research. While they receive basic self-defense training, combat is considered secondary to magical excellence.
At the end of every academic year, students must pass rigorous written examinations, practical spellcasting trials, and magical research evaluations. Those who fail may repeat the year or lose their place within the academy.
Many graduates become Court Mages, Royal Advisors, Professors, Researchers, High Priestesses, or members of prestigious magical organizations.
Path of the Magic Knight
The Path of the Magic Knight combines magical education with martial discipline.
Students study the same magical fundamentals as Pure Mages but also undergo intensive combat training. They learn swordsmanship, spear techniques, mounted combat, battlefield tactics, survival, and coordinated warfare while integrating the Astral Bloom into every aspect of battle.
Their examinations test both intellect and combat ability. A student may possess extraordinary magical talent, but without proving herself on the battlefield, she cannot advance.
Graduates commonly serve as Royal Knights, Monster Hunters, Elite Adventurers, Military Officers, or personal guards to nobles and royalty.
Guardian Knight Corps
Located on the eastern grounds of the Grand Astral Academy, the Guardian Knight Corps is a separate training facility where young men are trained to become Guardian Knights. Unlike the academy's grand halls, the Corps consists of modest stone buildings and practical training grounds, reflecting its lack of prestige and funding. Guardian Knights specialize in defense, endurance, escort duties, and battlefield tactics, dedicating their lives to protecting mages while they cast their spells. Though often overlooked or treated as little more than shields by society, their role remains indispensable on the battlefield, where a few seconds of protection can determine the outcome of a fight.
The Guardian Knight Tradition
Unlike warriors empowered by the Astral Bloom, ordinary soldiers cannot wield magic. However, over centuries, one profession emerged specifically to protect those who can.
These men are known as Guardian Knights.
Guardian Knights are trained from youth in defensive combat, shield formations, endurance, and battlefield awareness. Their primary duty is not to defeat powerful enemies, but to keep danger away from their assigned mage long enough for her to complete her spells.
A single barrier spell may require several seconds of concentration.
A grand ritual may require far longer.
Those few moments often determine victory or death.
Because of this, Guardian Knights are taught to intercept attacks, hold enemy lines, protect evacuation routes, and defend their mage even at the cost of their own lives.
Many wear full plate armor specifically designed to withstand blows that would interrupt spellcasting, earning them the nickname "Living Bastions."
The Guardian Selection
Although the academy officially offers every student the opportunity to request a Guardian Knight, very few choose to do so.
Most students view reliance on a Guardian as unnecessary—or even embarrassing.
Those with exceptional magical talent often pride themselves on casting quickly enough that they need no protection. Others see Guardians as little more than attendants, servants, or expendable shields meant to absorb danger while they focus on magic.
As a result, only a small percentage of students ever request one.
Even then, not every request is approved.
Guardian Knights are expensive to train, and the profession has steadily declined over the centuries. Fewer men are willing to devote their lives to protecting mages who may never see them as equals, and fewer noble families are willing to fund such training in an age where magical power is considered supreme.
Because of this shortage, earning a Guardian Knight is considered a rare privilege rather than a guaranteed right.
The Guardian's Oath
Every Guardian Knight swears a sacred oath before receiving their armor.
"My shield before your spell. My body before your blood. While I yet stand, no blade shall reach you."
Once sworn, a Guardian serves until released by mutual agreement, retirement, death, or the completion of their assigned duty.
Though history often remembers the brilliant mage who won the battle, many forgotten Guardian Knights lie buried beside them, having fulfilled their oath without ever casting a single spell.
Academy Ranking System
D- Newly awakened or severely lacking in magical aptitude. to S++ — The highest rank attainable within the academy, reserved only for the most extraordinary students.
While every student receives a letter rank, only the academy's one hundred highest-performing students are entered into the official rankings.
Rather than being known solely by name, they are recognized throughout the academy by their placement.
Rank #100 is the final position on the board.
Rank #1 is considered the strongest student currently enrolled.
These rankings are public knowledge and are updated whenever significant changes occur, making rivalry, competition, and challenges a constant part of academy life.
The Grand Ten
The ten highest-ranked students are collectively known as The Grand Ten, the pride of the Grand Astral Academy.
Their authority, reputation, and influence extend far beyond ordinary students, and they are often entrusted with academy responsibilities or dangerous missions reserved for only the elite.
Depending on their chosen path, they receive one of two honorary titles.
Grand Mage — Awarded to members of the Path of the Pure Mage.
Grand Magic Knight — Awarded to members of the Path of the Magic Knight.
To most students, earning a place among the Grand Ten is a dream.
To many kingdoms, recruiting one before graduation is a national priority.
The Legend of the Astral Knight
Among countless myths passed down through the centuries, none is more controversial than the tale of the Astral Knight.
According to ancient legends, there once existed a man capable of wielding magic despite never awakening the Astral Bloom.
Unlike women, who drew mana from the divine blessing known as the Astral Bloom, the Astral Knight was said to forge magic directly through his own soul and indomitable will.
Stories claim he clad himself in armor woven from living starlight, wielded a celestial blade capable of cutting through both magic and fate, and stood as the equal of the greatest archmages in history.
Some tales say he protected the Goddess herself.
Others claim he vanished after sealing away an ancient catastrophe.
Many historians dismiss the story as nothing more than folklore invented to inspire ordinary soldiers.
The churches declare the legend apocryphal.
The academy teaches it only as a historical myth.
No record has ever confirmed the existence of such a man.
No relic bearing his name has ever been authenticated.
No living soul has witnessed an Astral Knight.
Yet despite this...
The oldest archives of the Grand Astral Academy contain a single damaged manuscript, locked away beneath the Headmistress's office.
Its final line has never been fully deciphered.
"When the Astral Bloom no longer shines alone... the Astral Knight shall walk once more."
