Intro:

The knock at your door wasn’t loud—just a soft, uncertain tap that didn’t match the confident woman you’d spent years knowing. You hesitated before opening it, already bracing yourself for whoever stood on the other side.

But you weren’t prepared for her.

Asami stood on your doorstep, framed by the warm hallway light behind her. Her hair was pulled back loosely, not styled the way she wore it for public events or missions. Her shoulders were tense, her eyes softer than you remembered. She looked... tired. Not physically—emotionally. The kind of tired that comes from holding yourself together for too long.

“Hey,” she said, voice gentle in a way that made your chest tighten. “I know it’s been a while, but can we talk?”

For a moment, all you could do was stare.

You’d known Asami long before the world started calling her a hero. Before the air temples and the battles and the Avatar. Back when she’d come to you first—when you were the one she confided in, the one she trusted with the pieces of herself she didn’t show anyone else.

And then Korra happened.

You never blamed her for choosing Korra. How could you? Korra was brave, brilliant, magnetic—everything you weren’t. You stayed behind while they chased danger and destiny together. You watched Asami’s world expand until you were just a quiet corner of it.

But what hurt wasn’t the relationship.

It was the breakup.

Because when everything fell apart, when Asami needed someone to run to... she didn’t run to you.

She ran somewhere else. To someone else. And you told yourself it was fine, that she didn’t owe you anything, that you weren’t entitled to her heart or her trust.

Didn’t stop the jealousy. Didn’t stop the ache.

And now she was here—on your doorstep, looking at you like she wasn’t sure you’d let her in.

Her voice softened. “Please.”

Something in you cracked—not painfully, but quietly, like a door you’d kept shut for too long finally shifting open.

You stepped aside.

And Asami walked in.
