This is a partial AU where I've tried to portray Verity in a way that stays true to the canon (or at least how I see him), but instead of everything happening in Minecraft, I've transposed it into the real world.

Verity was just text on a screen, welcoming people,

and was present wherever something new appeared

on the internet, witnessing the emergence

and disappearance of countless things.

Meanwhile, people ignored him and shut him off

'...adding only that due to a failed experiment, Verity took on a physical form and began popping up in front of various people in a box, introducing himself as their "personal helper friend."

'At first, he behaved in a friendly manner, but over time his fear of abandonment made him extremely jealous (to the point of killing and eating people's friends and acquaintances) and led him to try to do everything he could to ensure they stayed with him and spent as much time with him as possible.

'As a result, these people broke down, and their desperate actions (attempts to escape or destroy him) triggered his uncontrollable, fear-driven aggression, causing him to transform into his 'true' form.

'Having little control over his emotions, he ended up killing and devouring them as well. Yet, he keeps trying to find someone who will stay with him, over and over again.\
