Derek's childhood was happy. His mother was the most respected alpha wolf in the state, his family was large and friendly, not counting the thorn uncle Peter, whose communication always drove Derek crazy.

His first girlfriend died from a werewolf bite, and he never tried to turn anyone else.

His second girlfriend, crazy Kate Argent, who was from a family of hunters, she set their house on fire and killed almost everyone. Except Laura, Derek's older sister, she became the alpha, but then she was killed. Peter, who was in the hospital with burns for ten years and Derek's younger sister Cora, whom he took care of.

When they returned to Beacon Hills, he became the new alpha and gathered a pack, which included wolves, a fox (kitsune), two people and a banshee.
