"I've seen it." Tim cut him off, not harshly, but with a finality that made the room feel colder. "I've literally seen the future where I become Batman. It was real. A future version of me came back. And he— I—" He paused, took a deep breath, and tried again. The Titans of Tomorrow—that’s what they called themselves. Future versions of the Titans. And their Batman... was me. A version of myself who wore the cowl, who believed the only way to stop crime was to end it. Permanently."

The silenced that followed was deafening.

"So, no. I don't want to talk about who should be Batman. Because I already know what I'd become. And I'd rather not give anyone a reason to think it's inevitable." He set the mug down on the console, the clink echoing in the quiet. "Sorry. You asked."

The room stayed quiet for a long time after Tim finished. looked like he'd been punched in the gut. Jason's jaw was tight—he understood, maybe better than anyone, what it felt like to be terrified of your own potential for darkness. Damian looked like he wanted to argue and couldn't find the words.
