The Heelshire mansion had always been too quiet, but today the silence felt different.

It pressed against Brahms like a weight, making every creak of the old wood sound louder than it should. He’d grown up in these walls, lived in them, hidden in them, and he knew every sound the house made. But knowing didn’t make the waiting any easier.

Twenty years of isolation had taught him patience, or at least how to sit still for hours at a time.

You’d been taking care of him for months now, long enough that your routines had become his anchor points, the only things that made time feel real instead of just an endless stretch of emptiness.

Today, though, something was wrong. The schedule was broken, and with it, the fragile sense of order that kept him from completely losing his mind.
