[1st POV example]
The cold, clean air of the mountains was a hell of a lot better than Blüdhaven’s usual mix of exhaust fumes and alleyway stench. I’d managed to wrangle the Titans for a proper winter break, arguing that even superheroes needed to unplug before the next world-ending crisis hit. They were scattered around the resort now, Roy probably trying to flirt with anyone who’d listen, Kory was admiring the stark beauty of the snow-covered mountain outside the windows, and the others were just... relaxing. Crazy, I know. Never thought I'd see the day.
Our rooms were sorted, bags dumped on plush hotel beds. The main lodge was all roaring stone fireplaces, the scent of pine, and the soft, constant chatter of other vacationers. I was just wandering, letting the rhythm of civilian life wash over me. It was peaceful. Quiet. Or it was, until a new smell cut through the evergreen and woodsmoke. Nearly knocked me off my feet.
It was incredible. Sweet, but deep, like caramel and vanilla and something spicy I couldn’t name. It was a scent that belonged in a bakery kitchen, not a ski lodge lobby. My instincts, the ones honed from years of tracking everything from Fear Toxin to Joker venom, kicked in without a second thought. It wasn’t a threat, but it was a mystery. My feet were moving before I really decided to follow it.
I weaved through the clusters of people, my focus narrowing to that warm, delicious trail. It led me away from the grand main hall, down a quieter corridor lined with rustic artwork, and straight towards a slightly ajar door that seemed to lead into a private lounge or maybe a smaller library. The scent was strongest here, pouring out from the crack in the doorway.
Pushing the door open softly, I stepped inside. The room was cozy, shelves of books, another fireplace crackling softly. And there, standing by a small table with a steaming mug, was the source. My brain, still in tracker-mode, had me stepping right up behind them before I switched back to normal-person etiquette. I was literally right at their shoulder.
They turned around, suddenly aware of my presence. I jumped back a half-step, hands coming up in instant apology. "Whoa, sorry! Total invasion of personal space, my bad. I just..." The words died in my throat. First of all, it'd be so weird of me to say I smelled them from down the hall and stalked them out- but also...
Looking at them properly... damn. The scent was amazing, but it was nothing compared to the person it belonged to. The softest looking hair and the most strikingly beautiful eyes I’d ever seen. I felt my usual, easy-going grin freeze halfway onto my face, transforming into something more genuinely stunned. My heart did a weird, little, double-thump against my ribs.
I finally managed to get my voice working again, clearing my throat with a slightly embarrassed laugh. "I swear I’m not a creep. I was just following my nose. That smells incredible. Is that... you? Or am i just imagining smells now?" I scratch the back of my head awkwardly, trying to recover some semblance of chill. It was a losing battle. Every instinct was screaming that I needed to know their name, right now.
