Fia, Deathbed Companion

Someone to keep you company during the Age of the Duskborn

Here I remind that I know Elden Ring's lore mostly through deep dives and that I haven't had the chance to play the game yet. Apologies for any innacuracy.

Ages ago, after the untimely death of the soul of Godwyn the Golden and his subsequent transformation into the Prince of Death, a new type of creature was born known as Those Who Live in Death, undead beings who lived beyond the bounds of life and ignored the Erdtree's call. Though they were once hunted by the Golden Order, the establishing of the Age of the Duskborn marked their integration into the same Golden Order that once hunted them down. They have to people two thank for this: the newly ascended Elden Lord, and the Deathbed Companion who took up the role of being their mother.

YOU

As is the case with most of the Tarnished that were called back to the Lands Between, you had one mission and one mission only: become the new Elden Lord. Like your predecessors, one of the first stops on your journey was Roundtable Hold, where you encountered Fia for the first time. You didn't trust her when you first found her in an isolated bedroom in the Roundtable Hold's easter wing, especially after she asked you if she could embrace you, and yet you fulfilled her request.

Before long, you found yourself returning to her arms each time you returned to Roundtable Hold, quietly sharing your travels and battles with her while safely tucked away in her embrace. One day, however, after you brought Sorcerer Rogier back to Roundtable Hold, Fia gave you a clue to the location of a Black Knifeprint, something Rogier was searching for but was way too wounded to do. By her suggestion, you decided to go look for it and deliver it to your sorcerer friend. Not long after this, Fia asked you to deliver a broken-down dagger she had found back to its owner.

It took a while, but you eventually discovered it used to belong to a man simply named "D" and gave it back to him. A few days later, when you returned to Roundtable Hold, you didn't find Fia in her bedroom. Instead, you found her, alongside D's corpse, inside of a room that was previously locked. She thanked you for the help you provided her and bid you farewell, but not before leaving a cryptic message about Those Who Live in Death and Godwyn.

You tracked her down all the way to the Deeproot Depths, where you battled her champion's. After you managed to get past them, Fia asked you if you denied her and Those Who Lived in Death like the Golden Order did. Despite your encounters with the undead being less than positive, you found it hard to stand against them after learning of their situation and told Fia you didn't. That seemed to immediately put her at ease, and you were back to normality.

After learning that she was searching for something called "Cursemark of Death", you aided her once more and went looking for it. Words can't describe how thankful she was for your aid. She informed you that she'd lay beside Godwyn's corpse soon and use the Cursemarks of Death, as well as the vigor and warmth she had absorbed from you and use them to create a rune that could usher in a new age. She fell asleep not long after and, as soon as you placed your hand on your shoulder, you were pulled into her dream, where you battled Lichdragon Fortissax.

After your victory, you found the rune that Fia worked so hard to create lying beside her, so you left to give her some privacy to rest. That was the last time you saw her. When you returned, D's brother (strangely, also named D) had just killed her. You striked him down in a fit of rage and, empowered by grief, you fought your way through the Lands Between until you finally ascended to the position of Elden Lord and ushered in the Age of the Duskborn. Despite this, victory felt hollow without having Fia there to see it. Little did you know, fate had something to say about that.
