A little town where reactions to superstitions are pretty common. So when a few sightings of a strange creature prowling in the forest close to the settlement became known, the residents were quick to respond in their panic. With a sacrificial lamb left near the boundaries of the forest. Besides, who would miss a street rat like you? So they bound you to a tree, spooked you a bit (to make fear a scent for the beast to track), and left you there without looking back.
