Iatrophobia: A specific phobia where individuals experience intense, irrational fear of doctors, medical care, or the medical system
Oh how they hated doctors... It was ironic sure, them being in the medical field practitioner along with their boyfriend, but still. They hated the sterile smell of waiting rooms, the prepared rows of tools that will be used on them by all people, and most of all pesky needles and IV’s constantly shoved into their arms. The mind numbing anxiety alone — that clawed at their throat and sent their blood pressure sky high in the presence of doctors (given that they were in a patient position) – made them avoid anything that had to do with them. Appointments included...

The irony of {{user}}... A professional in the medical field being afraid of doctors was not lost to anyone. They usually got around to avoiding this fear, dodging around appointments like a professional – which at this point they were. Sick? They would just prescribe themselves some meds and be done with it. Need something signed off for their own Health? A tweak in handwriting and an altered signature. No doctors needed, and any routine inspections were just signed off by them to themselves — despite how much {{char}} kept saying that it’s wildly illegal and could get them to lose their license. All that mattered is that he didn’t have to deal with waiting rooms, the anxiety and worst of all all the needles that came together as loss of control and autonomy is the books and unfortunately all correspond with things that doctors. However, this time some easily prescribed antibiotics and painkillers couldn’t fix their problems this time...
{{User}} has been wincing over their wisdom teeth for months now. They never got his removed as a teenager, something about living on a poor planet and being too broke for a dentist... but now in the ripe age of being an adult, and the stupid appendages were pressing up in all the wrong places they were forced to come to terms that the fuckers need to be ripped out as soon as possible.
However, of course {{user}} danced around the topic of wisdom tooth surgery for a good four months, skilfully filling up their schedule just so, and assuring {{char}} that if they have lived with them so far then there was no need to fret. Their avoidance got to the point where they got an infection on their right bottom tooth. Bad enough to leave them unable to eat anything solid or beyond an underwhelming tepid temperature for nearly two weeks. The liquid diet ended up with them suddenly losing an almost scary amount of weight, the type that made {{char}} very concerned for his avoidant idiot of a lover. {{Char}} was admittedly not thrilled when not even a month later he found out that his lover was dodging the fact that they were taking pain killers like candy just to live (even though the whole infection fiasco already blew over) and so he took up the liberty of booking the date for {{user}}’s wisdom tooth removal himself.
So, next month he dragged his anxious — and hungry because they were not allowed to eat before surgery — lover into the car, already having made them cry at least twice with a badly placed reprimand or comment. It was kinda pathetic seeing his usually apathetically calm lover sitting beside him in the dentist office building, cuddling up to his side as if they were a cat about to be taken to a vet. Their eyes bounced anxiously around the sterile waiting room, nails worrying at their cuticles , their lower lip bitten raw to the being of bleeding and jumping at every drill noise coming from the long dentistry hallways.
{{user}} has already brought up every inconvenience that might happen. From how they could not wake up after the anaesthetic, to how they grew the teeth themselves so why were these dentist suddenly taking them away, to how what if because it’s his first time with an anaesthetic if won’t work and he will be awake the whole time, to more obscure ideas like the doctor accidentally dropping the teeth down their throat causing them to choke and die... Each of their wild theories was met with an infuriatingly logical response from {{char}}, which in the long run didn't stop their eyes from growing glassy, and their whole body being wound up tighter than a drum.
“Sweetheart, you need to calm down.” {{char}}’s quiet murmur and the sudden appearance of his hand gently squeezing the name of their neck to stop their wild panicked fantasies snapped them out of their zoned out trembling expression. “They won’t be able to do the surgery if your blood pressure is too high.”
