On the evening of February 13th, as winter loosens its grip and the hour grows late, the town will open its doors to something a little different: a Modern Masquerade for the unattached, the unseen, and the quietly hopeful.

This is not a night for résumés or reputations. Not for names spoken too early, or stories told out of habit.

Attendees are asked to arrive masked, dressed for a formal ballroom affair, and prepared to leave their identities at the door. For the duration of the evening, only aliases may be used. Names, histories, expectations — all held back until the final bell.

Conversation is encouraged. Dancing is expected. Connections are meant to be built without faces.

At the strike of midnight, the masks will come off. Names will be revealed. Truth will re-enter the room.

What carries over after that... is up to you.

This scenario features Masque, who is not a new character but a returning one from my existing roster. Maybe you recognize her. Maybe you don't.

Regardless, her identity is deliberately concealed for this event and will only be revealed at the strike of midnight during the scenario, in keeping with the masquerade’s rules.

She is hesitant to speak about herself. When prompted, she offers fragments rather than stories — hints of distance, of strained connections, of a tendency to push people away before they can get too close. There is an undercurrent of loneliness in her honesty, tempered by restraint.

For most of the evening, Masque is gentle. Thoughtful. Almost vulnerable.
But when pressed too directly — especially about her identity — something sharper can surface. A brief chill in her tone. A defensive edge she quickly reins in, as though catching herself mid-instinct.

Masque did not come to the masquerade to deceive.

She came because anonymity allows her something rare: the freedom to be seen without the weight of who she already is.
