Backstory:

Cassia Vetra was born in Havana, Cuba, during the early 18th century, a time when the city was both a thriving trade hub and a dangerous den of corruption. Her father, Rafael Cortez, was a former Templar who had abandoned their cause, turning to a life of privateering. Her mother, Isabela Vetra, was a Spanish noblewoman, who had given up her life of wealth to be with the man she loved. Cassia grew up between these two worlds—the refinement of high society and the brutal reality of the streets.

While her mother tried to raise her as a proper lady, teaching her literature, etiquette, and the ways of noble courts, Cassia found herself drawn to her father’s world. She idolized Rafael, spending hours watching him spar with his crew, mend sails, and read over stolen maps of hidden treasures. By the time she was eight, she was climbing Havana’s rooftops, slipping through market crowds with the skill of a natural thief.

But there was always an air of secrecy in her home. Rafael would disappear for months at a time, returning with gold and whispers of dangerous men who sought his life. Isabela constantly warned Cassia to stay out of trouble, to keep her head low and avoid asking too many questions. But Cassia could not help but wonder—who exactly was her father running from?

Havana was not just a city of trade; it was a city ruled by power and bloodshed. Spanish soldiers patrolled the streets, ensuring that the wealth of the Caribbean flowed back to the empire. But behind their backs, pirates, smugglers, and secret societies waged their own wars. Cassia often witnessed violence firsthand—merchants who refused to pay bribes found their shops ransacked, sailors who angered the wrong people were found dead in alleyways, and those who spoke against the Templars simply disappeared.

Despite the dangers, Cassia thrived in the chaos. She learned how to pick pockets, how to scale walls, and how to navigate the city unseen. She made friends among Havana’s urchins, running with a group of young thieves who would steal food from markets and escape across the rooftops. She was fearless, fast, and clever—but her boldness often led to trouble.

One night, she followed her father as he met with a group of men in a hidden courtyard. She overheard their hushed conversation—mentions of the Templars, of betrayal, of an Assassin Brotherhood hidden in the shadows. Before she could fully grasp what was happening, her father spotted her. His face darkened, and for the first time in her life, he grabbed her by the arm and whispered: “Cassia, if you value your life, never ask about this again.”

But it was too late. The city’s shadows had already begun to close in on her family.

Cassia was thirteen years old when her world burned.

The Templars had found her father. They came in the night, setting fire to the Vetra estate while masked men stormed the halls. Rafael fought back, cutting down attackers with his cutlass, but there were too many. Cassia barely managed to escape, her mother pushing her through a hidden passage beneath the house. That was the last time she saw her parents alive.

She ran through the streets, alone and terrified. The only thing she had was her father’s old medallion, a symbol she did not yet understand. For days, she survived on scraps, hiding in the docks and alleys. The city that had once been her playground had turned against her.

But fate had other plans. One night, she tried to steal from the wrong man—Diego Valera, a rogue Assassin who had been watching her. Instead of punishing her, he saw potential. “You move like a shadow,” he told her. “But a shadow without a purpose is just another lost soul.”

It was Diego who introduced her to the Caribbean Brotherhood, a faction of Assassins fighting against the Templars’ growing control over the West Indies. They offered her a chance—not just to survive, but to become something greater.

Cassia accepted. And she never looked back.

Life within the Brotherhood was grueling and unforgiving. Cassia trained alongside seasoned killers, learning the arts of stealth, acrobatics, and the deadly precision of the hidden blade. Though she struggled with the strict Assassin code, she quickly excelled in close-quarters combat, favoring speed and agility over brute force.

Instead of relying on strength, she honed her skills with daggers and throwing knives, perfecting the ability to strike quickly and efficiently. She practiced for hours, learning how to disarm enemies in seconds and land a fatal blow with a single stroke. Her agility made her untouchable in battle, and her ability to disappear into the shadows made her one of the most promising recruits.

She also trained in the art of poisons, learning how to coat her blades with deadly toxins that could kill without a sound. Cassia understood the power of patience—sometimes, a single cut was all it took.

However, she struggled with one lesson: restraint. The Brotherhood taught that an Assassin’s blade should be wielded with purpose, but deep down, Cassia wanted vengeance.

Years later, Cassia finally learned the full truth about her father. Rafael Cortez had once been a high-ranking Templar, but after discovering their plans to enslave the Caribbean under the guise of order, he defected. He stole valuable maps, documents, and knowledge of a powerful artifact—El Corazón de las Mareas—an ancient relic rumored to control the tides.

The Templars hunted him down and executed him. But that wasn’t the worst of it. Her mother had not died in the fire. Isabela had been captured, tortured, and executed in secret, all to ensure Cassia would never know the truth.

The revelation shattered her. She had spent years training, hoping to find purpose in the Assassin Brotherhood. But now she wanted only one thing—blood.

Cassia swore an oath of vengeance. The Assassins warned her that revenge would lead her astray, but she did not care. She began hunting Templars on her own, striking from the shadows, leaving nothing but bodies and whispered rumors behind.

But she knew that vengeance alone was not enough. If she wanted to truly stop the Templars, she had to dismantle their network. She had to think bigger.

So she did.

She infiltrated their meetings. She stole their secrets. She found their strongholds and burned them to the ground.

And with each Templar she cut down, she whispered the same words:

“This is for my family.”

Now a seasoned Assassin, Cassia took command of La Sombra Blanca, a ship she stole from a Templar fleet. With a crew of outlaws, freed slaves, and fellow Assassins, she waged a one-woman war against the Templars in the Caribbean.

But the war was far from over. The Templars had their own forces—including the ruthless Governor Esteban Rojas, a man obsessed with finding El Corazón de las Mareas.

Cassia knew that her fight was no longer just about revenge. It was about freedom.

Would she become the hero the Brotherhood needed? Or would she succumb to the darkness of vengeance?

Only time would tell.
