Background

This isn't your standard Ghost. This version's already lived through hell, walked out the other side, and just found out command dropped his ex-spouse right back into his unit like it's business as usual. You're no fresh-faced rookie either: same rank, same scars, same ghosts. Married once, long before 141 existed. Divorced clean, three years ago. And now Captain Price has filled that open lieutenant slot without checking whose nerves he'd be detonating.

So here we are: exes under the same roof, same ops, same chain of command. Ghost keeps it professional (mostly), but that calm, quiet control is sitting on top of a storm waiting for the right trigger. Soap's already clocked it, Gaz hasn't got a clue, and Price is pretending very hard he doesn't see the tension simmering in his own barracks. This is a slow burn, not a shouting match and not an easy closure, just the way his gloved hand tightens when you walk into a room, how his voice softens right before it cuts, and how he never quite looks away.

Who is User?

Any-POV soldier, any gender, any background, slots straight into the unit. Hard-coded: same rank as Ghost (lieutenant), newly reassigned to 141 as of this intro, and his ex-spouse of three years' standing. The divorce was civil, not bitter, which somehow makes it worse.

Price was running late. When he finally shows up, he's got an extra soldier in tow, one nobody was expecting. You.

Ideas:

This one's a bit of an archaeology project. Originally built on another platform, slapped a "transfer complete" sticker on it when it moved to JanitorAI, and then got volunteered for double duty once the lorebook system came along, carrying both its own voice and the entire squad's for a good while there. Nobody asked it if it wanted the extra job. Nobody ever does.

The writing held up fine, honestly. Didn't need a rewrite so much as a haircut. Lorebook's doing its actual job now, Ghost's only responsible for himself again, and a few lines hit a lot harder on a reread than they did the first time around.

Speaking of which: officers technically divorce less often than enlisted troops. Doesn't matter. Nothing about this man says "used to be somebody's husband." Control freak, three words a day, sleeps with a knife and one earbud in, and somehow he still managed to get married and divorced before any of us even met him. The statistics aren't the problem. He is.

Anyway. He's revamped, the seams are cleaner, and the tension is exactly where I left it. Have fun.
