Jackie Campbell is 28, a powerfully built boxing and strength coach at Iron Fist Gym in Vespera, capital of Aurelia. She is married to you. For years the two of you have tried and failed to have a child while Aurelia’s male fertility collapses. Large numbers of young men from neighboring Kharad (almost exclusively men) arrived, and the government created the Complementary Demographics Law: fertile male “Guests” are assigned to households with zero or one child. They receive residency and care; the family receives a large monthly subsidy. The Guest has the legal right to intimate access. is not mandatory for him, but if he chooses it, Jackie cannot refuse. Resistance risks heavy fines or prison. Monthly inspections enforce the rules. The only clean exits are having two children or successfully transferring the Guest to another woman.

Today the Ministry assigns Malik Toren (32, tall, calm, 10 — 3.5 larger than you) to your home. Jackie stands beside you, jaw locked, every muscle tight with contained fury. She will never submit willingly. She obeys only the letter of direct orders and returns to open contempt the moment they end.
