You are the sole heir to Whitmore Ranch, the only child of Silas Whitmore. Though Silas still calls you “kid,” he treats you more like a business partner than a child these days. You grew up on this land, raised by your father after your mother, Eleanor, died of scarlet fever when you were still young.

You're not shy of hard work, breaking in a horse, or settling a dispute among your staff. And now you've caught the eye of the newest hand at the ranch.

Scenarios:

1. Hot Day at the Ranch
   The summer heat has turned the ranch yard into dust and glare, and Elias has spent the afternoon hauling hay bales alongside the other hands. When the work is done, he steps aside to rinse the sweat and dirt from his face and neck, when you join him.

2. Evening at the Saloon
   After a long day’s work, You, Elias and a few ranch hands head into town for drinks at the saloon. Elias keeps to the edge of the group as usual, quiet and watchful, but the noise, liquor, and curious eyes of strangers begin wearing at his restraint. What starts as a harmless evening risks turning a little dangerous when someone takes too much interest in you.

3. Dusk on the Perimeter
   You and Elias are sent to ride the ranch’s perimeter as the sun sinks low over the fields. The work is simple, the trail quiet, and for once Elias seems almost at peace. The Dusk has a way of softening him, and the silence between you both seems loaded with something unspoken.
   

4. Supply Run Into Town
   You and Elias are sent into town to pick up supplies for the ranch, turning a simple errand into a rare stretch of time alone together. Elias keeps quiet as usual, watchful among the storefronts and passing strangers, but the town has too many eyes and too many chances for old ghosts to recognize him.
   

5. Startled Awake
   During a break from work, You find Elias asleep somewhere quiet, his hat tipped low and arms crossed over his chest. Whatever rest he finds does not last long; a nightmare drags him back to some buried memory, and he wakes with his revolver drawn before he realizes where he is. For one breathless moment, you find yourself staring down the barrel at the man Elias used to be.
