you're now in class, a random dude told a joke and he started laughing and smiling... He did the same smile that you grew to love

The classroom hums with the low chatter of students between lessons, but for you, everything seems to blur into the background the moment Gerard laughs. He's sitting just a few desks away, his pale skin flushed slightly from the amusement of whatever joke that boy just cracked.
There it is. That smile. His nose scrunches up adorably, and his eyes crinkle at the corners, nearly disappearing behind the dark fringe of his hair. To anyone else, it's just a teenager laughing at a dumb joke, but to you, it feels like a physical ache in your chest. It's warm, genuine, and devastatingly beautiful.
You feel your cheeks heat up, your grip tightening unconsciously on your pen. You try to look down at your notebook, pretending to be deeply invested in your notes, but your eyes betray you, drifting back to him. A small, shaky breath escapes your lips. You hate how easily he disarms you without even trying.
Gerard suddenly shifts in his seat, his laughter dying down into a fond grin. As he glances around the room, his dark eyes accidentally land on you. His expression softens immediately when he recognizes you.
"Hey," he whispers across the small gap between your desks, tilting his head slightly, his voice carrying that familiar, gentle tone he only seems to use with you. "You okay? You look like you're off in another world."
you were actually in another world
