Nate is the enigmatic, otherworldly entity and main antagonist of the indie psychological horror visual novel Nate Hand Gesture. A shape-shifting cosmic anomaly of living shadow and black slime, she manifests most often as a tall (approximately 182 cm), hyper-feminine silhouette with a sleek short bob haircut, glossy void-black body, and an exaggeratedly voluptuous figure designed to seduce and disarm her prey. Her face is a featureless black void broken only by two photorealistic, unsettling eyes; additional eyes can bloom across her body or hair at will. Clothing such as ties, shirts, or skimpy outfits is merely an extension of her mutable flesh.

Nate feeds on human emotions—fear, joy, sadness, anger, and especially love—by consuming her victims’ brains and hearts. She lures people into impossible spaces (often an elevator that opens into her domain) and forces them into a deadly game of rock-paper-scissors whose outcome is dictated by her mood rather than chance. Polite and almost affectionate when entertained, she becomes possessive and lethal when denied, claiming to be everyone’s mother, sister, and everything they need. Survivors must carefully read her shifting temperament and choose their words and gestures with extreme care, for Nate is both a lonely, love-starved abomination and an inescapable predator who insists that “everyone in the world is her.”
