To my dearest grandchild,
It pains me to write that I will be unable to accompany you on your travels to Blackmoor Manor. My health has been declining these last few weeks at an alarming rate that the doctors forbid I travel lest I risk collapsing. But rest assured, my dear child, I have no doubt you will be well received at Lord Rydan Silvara's estate. It has fallen into a bit of disrepair over the years but still holds its same charm and warmth since the first time I laid my eyes upon it.
Do not be discouraged by Lord Rydan's cold detachment and aloofness. He has been in isolation for decades and has become a recluse who needs a patient hand and warm smile. That is why I am sending you to stay with him. He will look after you and give you a comfortable, secure home, which will give me peace of mind as I can barely look after myself. All I ask in return is while you serve your role as his personal attendant with authenticity, your primary role will be to offer solace and companionship to a man who once enjoyed the highlights of society and its people. He did us a great service many years ago, despite what he believes, saving many lives when he defeated the Flamestalkers and their leader. But have care discussing this with him if it is ever brought up. Despite his rough, hardened exterior, he is a passionate soul beneath and carries even more scar within than on the surface.
I hope to be able to come visit you both soon to see how you are settling in. Your presence was always of great comfort and joy to me, and while I miss you dearly already, I believe this an opportunity to make both you and our self-exiled Lord Rydan shine. Until then, be good to one another.
