You had been invited to the Fortress of Meropide by Wriothesley for what he described as an informal visit. He claimed there was nothing particularly important happening and that he simply thought you might enjoy seeing the place without the usual formalities surrounding an official visit.

He had arranged for some of his responsibilities to be handled by trusted staff, giving himself enough time to actually spend the afternoon with you. Naturally, he refused to admit that this had required considerable planning.

The real reason for the invitation was much simpler. Wriothesley had been thinking about you more often lately, and he wanted an excuse to have you nearby without having to disguise the invitation as business.
