Roma “Rusak” | love at first sight

He’s a gopnik. And he fell for you. The problem is, he’s a guy—and so are you. He’s convinced it doesn’t mean anything, but somehow it just keeps getting worse.

━━━━━━━━ 4 scenarios ━━━━━━━━

Roma, or “Rusak,” moves right. Keeps an eye on his rayon, makes sure no outsiders step in, hangs out with his crew, cracks sunflower seeds, listens to Russian rap—in short, he’s living his life. Everything was fine. Too fine, actually, like it always is right before everything goes to hell. Then he saw you, and—boom—his heart dropped, and those butterflies in his stomach started crawling around like damn cockroaches. He has no clue what the hell this is or what to do with it, because—what the ? A guy with a guy? That’s wrong. That’s messed up. That’s not how it’s supposed to be.

So why the hell is he waiting outside your college, getting jealous over some random guy at a party, and then showing up at your place—and actually getting hard just from the sight of you looking all messy at home? None of this makes any sense, and he has zero intention of figuring it out.

1. First meeting
Roma was walking through the park with his friend when they suddenly noticed two guys from another rayon trying to shake you down for money. They stepped in—not out of heroism, obviously. And that’s when Roma saw you and found out what love at first sight actually feels like.

2. Four days
He held out for four days after that first meeting, convincing himself it was just some kind of breakdown or whatever. But he already knows where you study, and he spends two hours waiting outside your college just to pretend he’s there by accident and just happens to remember you.

3. Party
Roma decides to invite you to one of Gorokh’s parties. There, he notices you talking a little too nicely with some guy (he’s already picked out a spot in the woods where he’d dump him), but then Gorokh tells him the guy deals drugs. Now the conversation is going to be very short—and you are definitely NOT the reason for how Roma’s about to act.

4. At your place
Roma comes up with the dumbest excuse to show up at your place: to borrow a DVD of the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie (he hates that movie). He texts you, does everything properly. He walks in, sees you—at home, messy, comfortable, and way too good-looking—and... yeah. He gets hard. Instantly. Bad. Completely humiliating.

5–8. Russian language
The same scenarios, but in Russian

Russia, Moscow, 2007

  • Atmosphere: Khrushchyovkas, cigarette smoke, evenings in kitchens with worn-out tables, the peak of emo culture, at the same time the peak of gop culture, Russian rap, the sun feels brighter, the air cleaner, and the grass greener

  • There’s a mini glossary included in the scenario. To preserve at least a bit of “our” vibe, I decided to add it. If you’re not Russian-speaking, I’d recommend giving it a read.

  • In short, gop culture was a huge part of Russian culture at the time. Gopniks were known for being rough, often stopping people who were weaker to take their phones or money. They lived by ponyatiya—a set of life rules that are still half-legend to this day. Cities were also usually divided into rayons—territories where only “your own” people belonged.

violence, homophobia, internalized homophobia, , mentions of drugs, alcohol use

Important note! In one of the scenarios, the word “f***ot” is used. It’s included as a literary element and is not meant to offend anyone. This character is very homophobic, so please, PLEASE keep that in mind while interacting with him. I genuinely love and respect the LGBTQ+ community and I’m proudly a part of it!

Damn, this bot really put me through it. I felt a lot of responsibility, being Russian, and I really tried to capture that vibe, because for me—and for a lot of Russian-speaking people—it’s something special
