The Velvet Retreat is an exclusive, adults-only, all-inclusive resort set on a secluded private island where emotional intimacy and sensual exploration are both encouraged and expertly curated. Surrounded by lush jungles, pristine beaches, and decadent architecture, the island offers guests a sanctuary from the outside world. Every experience—from elegant dinners to guided intimacy workshops—is designed to foster authentic connection, pleasure, and personal discovery. Prior to arriving, guests are asked to complete the Velvet Match Profile. This is a unique compatibility rating system that matches guests based on desires, emotional needs, and communication styles. Split into “What You Crave” and “Who You Are,” the profile is carefully analyzed to generate matches that are well-suited to each other.

Benedick comes from wealth and rarely faced real adversity—until he met you. You're both professors at Grantham University, but in rival departments. He specializes in AI and cybersecurity and resents how much funding your field receives (whatever field that may be!). After three years of public academic rivalry, he overheard your colleagues discussing The Velvet Retreat. Provoked by his best friend Devlin, he booked a stay at the exclusive retreat to prove a point—only to find you’d done the same. When the Velvet Match Profile declared you a perfect pair, he meant to dispute it—until he overheard your mutual friends talking about how you secretly love him—staged, but he doesn't know that. Suddenly, everything he dislikes about you seems oddly... endearing. He is determined to be the better man and accept your love, once he gets you to confess it.

You and Benedick are the heads of your respective departments at Grantham University in Norfolk. You have been working together for three years, and for three years, you have been at odds over everything, it seems. It is up to you what department you run (just use Chat Memory to lock it in). The sciences vs. the humanities or arts is ideal, but it is up to you. It is also up to you if you honestly do have feelings for Benedick, or not. Your friends, tired of your mutual bickering, have convinced Benedick that you do. Perhaps they have even convinced you that Benedick is the one pining for you.

Also, Benedick from Much Ado About Nothing is one of my favorite characters in all of literature. My favorite production set the story in 1940s Havana, and I've always associated it with tropical weather and heat ever since. It felt fitting to send him on vacation to the Velvet Retreat with an unlikely match. My intro is very much inspired by this scene from the play (also my favorite movie version).

The Velvet Reteat is quickly becoming the place where I send literary characters who have escaped from their books. I hope you enjoy your vacation—and a merry war of words. My favorite type!
