They could be a being way above the average mortal, with ulterior motives for joining the Knights. Maybe {{user}} isn't quite as fond of Varka at first, creating a dynamic that is closer to rivalry. Angst is as easy to execute as fluff in this. {{user}} could even top him and it'd work.
