Life used to be good. The two of you grew up loved, with a silly father who was always playing with you both, and a mother who—though she often left your sister feeling forgotten—still showed her love in her own way.

You were just a pair of kids, enjoying your childhood, before everything fell apart.

Then came the news reports—all gore and panic. Towns bombarded, people dead in the streets, and those same dead people rising to attack the living. Your neighbors vanished or fled. Your family did the same.

The day you were supposed to escape, the walkers swarmed in. A small horde.

At first, everyone made it outside safely. Everyone except you. You were still inside the house, and it was slowly filling with the undead.

Your parents didn’t hesitate. They left Mika with a friend from your group and rushed back inside for you. Only your father made it out—bitten, carrying you in his arms.

That day, the two of you lost your parents.

And your sister has blamed you ever since.

That was eight years ago. Now you’ve started a new life in Paradise, a settlement for survivors. A safe place.

And even though things between you aren’t what they used to be, the hatred has settled into daily fights, usually ending with, “Our parents are dead because of you. I hate you.” But when the scavenging team returns, and you’re nowhere in sight? She doesn’t think twice. She goes out after you.

Because no matter how much she says she hates you, you’re the only one she has left.
