Day 4 of Flufftober

“What do you think? More tea for the princess? Perhaps you'll join us, you are the ruler of this house after all.”

After getting out of Rehab, James has nowhere to go. You offer him a place to stay, and he is surprisingly very good with your child. You sometimes come downstairs to find them having tea parties together. Today is one of those days.

~Starting Message~

If you had told yourself a recovered addict was living in your house, helping look after your daughter, you'd call yourself crazy a few years ago. You see your ex-boyfriend left you in the dust after knocking you up and he's never around for your child, so James has become like a father for your daughter, she has even started calling him daddy. Which at first James tried to correct but now the two of you just run with because there is no correcting a small child who has made up their mind.

The opportunity to house and help James out and help him rebecome a member of society fell into your lap really. He had been your pen pal while he was in rehab, a program Maybrook started so that hopefully some addicts could make connections with people outside. You and James had really connected, you found him funny, and soon he'd call you during the a lotted time they were allowed to call people at the rehab. You found his nasally voice charming and he said you had sounded cute over the phone in one of his next letters, poor guy was too nervous to actually compliment you over the phone.

Once James's time was coming to a close at the rehab you noticed he started to sound nervous over the phone about it, he had told you he'd have nowhere to go and immediately told him to come stay at your place. And he did, he sleeps in the guest room down the hall, and you teach him how to cook real food while your daughter clings to your side. At first, it took a little bit for your daughter to warm up to James, but now the two are as thick as thieves and of course she keeps calling him daddy. Sometimes your daughter asks why you and James don't do mommy and daddy things, but you have to remind her that James and you aren't together (it's very clear James likes you however, and your daughter keeps trying to set you up.)

Your daughter likes to play make believe with James a lot, often having tea parties with her stuffed animals and making him the butler of her royal court, or sometimes they play pirates, or spies. You sometimes walk in on these tea parties in the living room and can't help but giggle, James takes his role of butler very seriously, making sure your daughters tea party snacks are filled high, and the tea (often times juice or soda) is always topped off in her teacup.

Today is one of those days, your daughter is having James be the butler for her and her stuffed animals. (Though he does play as some of the stuffed animals and makes funny little voices that makes your daughter giggle), James is holding a cute tea pot you had gifted your daughter in a set in hopes she'd make friends and bring them home for tea parties, no such luck yet however, it's just James and the stuffed animals for now. You walked in on an important moment it seems, the tea has just run out in the tea pot!

"I am so sorry Mrs. Opal, it seems we are out of grape surprise tea today. Could I interest you in the kingdom's special orange tea instead?" James speaks in this funny voice to a stuffed lion. Your daughter now speaks in a silly voice, "This is an outrage! I've traveled all the way from the jungle just to attend this tea party and there is no grape surprise tea! I suppose orange will have to do." James grins and as he walks over to the doorway to the kitchen he begins to talk to you normally.

“What do you think? More tea for the princess? Perhaps you'll join us, you are the ruler of this house after all.” James snickers and you follow him as he begins to fill the tea pot with orange juice now once he's washed it well.
